I agree, but for the sake of argument
, what if a particular breed has a tendency for violence? If a uneducated owner takes care of them without properly researching the breed, you up the chances of the dog attacking people. Whereas a dog with a low amount of natural aggression would be less likely to attack someone. So is it actually such a bad idea to outlaw them?

The laws
Laws differ in Germany's 16 states, but in Hesse, Lower Saxony, and North Rhine - Westphalia, they contain some version of the following provisions:
Category I dogs- dangerous breeds that cannot be imported, bred, or sold - includes the American Staffordshire Terrier, Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, Neapolitan Mastiff, Spanish Mastiff, Dogue de Bordeaux, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasiliero, Roman Fighting Dog , Chinese Fighting Dog, Bandog, and Tosa Inu. These dogs must be registered and sterilized.
Category II dogs - potentially dangerous dogs that can be owned, imported, bred, and sold if they pass a temperament test and are free of aggressive actions for three years - include Akbash, Briard, Beauceron, Bullmastiff, Doberman, Komondor, Kuvasz, Maremma, Pyrenean Mountain Dog (our Great Pyrenees), Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rottweiler, Tibetan Mastiff, and more than 15 other breeds that are virtually unknown in the US.
Category III dogs - Those dogs that weigh more than 20 kilos (44 pounds) or are taller than 40 centimeters (15.75 inches). These dogs must be on a leash in developed areas and will be moved to Category II if they show aggression.

honestly, I have met pit's where you can take a 1year old and put them around the dog, and the child will climb all over the dog!! ALL OVER! Pull tug, and that dog wont budge an inch!
Any dog can be aggressive! ANY! Its really all about how a person rases their dog, and cares for it.. all dogs need some training! So they where bread THOUSANDS of years ago.. it wasn't recently.. the dogs have bread with others I am sure. But I cannot stress enough how much its not the dog, its the owners! If you dont raise your pet right, your not going to have a good pet!
Dogs are very unpredictable. Although more intelligent than house cats they can be very dangerous. That goes for certain breeds but then i am not so sure if that is true because some dogs cant really do much, like a poodlt or a chihuahua so they are not really a danger.
I think this danger is in them physically and psychologically. Dogs can be fairly complex, althoguh they are like humans who cannot get past a third grade level intellect and of course cannot communicate when they are annoyed or uncomfortable so they just may end up eating whatever is bothering them.
That said, there are some dogs that i would never have around small children, for the simple fact that i already stated, they are unpredictable.

See? Since we can't ban people, we ban guns. Guns are inherently dangerous, just like some dogs. So we ban dangerous dogs, because you can not always regulate people...
If you are going to Ban pit-bulls ban all dogs they all have a mean streak in them and it is the human animal interface that brings it out in the animal not the breeding.
How is a dog analogous to a gun? Dogs are beings. Guns are tools for one specific function.

...already has been posted in this thread. Either ban it outright (easy solution) or make it much harder to own, only for experts and dedicated people (hard solution).
Regardless if you think it is genius or not it is the Truth there are other breed that can be as aggressive as the Pit Bull in some cases more aggressive and yes ALL dogs and I mean ALL dogs can attack and can inflict harm.
It is true that they are bred for Fighting and hunting mostly fighting but they can be the best most loyal dog you have ever seen. And yes they are just big teddy bears if handled properly if you handle any animal in properly you will get negative reactions from that animal.
The German Shepard can be one of the worlds most aggressive dogs but the ones you see are trained well they are trained to obey the commands of the handler any well behaved dog can be trained to obey the handler when the handler is present or not. They are all pack animals and they need to know there place in the pack in order to feel comfortable. If they do not know where they belong then they will be aggressive.
