Olga:
Russians are inventive: some block, others find a million ways to bypass blocking.
Are you telling us that you have found inventive ways to bypass the blocked internet, allowing you to access sciforums and other sites?
And yet you can't work out how to translate your posts into English?
How does that work?
So, don't worry about us - we survived Lenin, Stalin, coped with Hitler and Napoleon, and somehow we will cope with today's enemies.
Who is an enemy of Russia?
The only war Russia is currently in is the one that it started by trying to invade Ukraine, which is an independent nation.
Nobody like an aggressor, Olga. It's illegal under international law to start a war of aggression. Your nation's war against Ukraine is illegal.
Your "you don't resist" can be applied to yourself - why don't you resist Trump if you consider him a monster, a rapist, a pedophile, etc.?
Only a little more than half of Americans who voted in the most recent Presidential election voted for Trump. There is plenty of "resistance" from those who disagree with him and his policies and his actions, I assure you. Haven't you noticed that, just from reading sciforums?
You have enough problems yourself, but for some reason you see only ours.
It's possible to pay attention to many things and not just one thing, Olga. People can care about more than just one thing at a time.
But here, at least, a person will not end up in a cardboard box under a bridge, unless, of course, he is an alcoholic, or a drug addict. We have a law that prohibits taking the last home, even if a person has millions in debt. And in any hospital, a person will be treated free of charge, even if this person has not worked a single day in his entire life, and has not paid a penny in taxes. And the social worker will come to the pensioner, bring food, clean the house, etc., also absolutely free of charge. And in any university, a person can study for free if he has successfully passed the Unified State Exam, and has not shirked from school. Plus a free dormitory and a scholarship for students. Free secondary education. Kindergartens and nurseries are practically free. Yes, a lot of things that we have and that you do not have.
I'm very glad to hear it.
And I believe that you are the victim of propaganda, not me, James. Have you ever been to Russia? Come, see for yourself. No one will bite you here, believe me.
I am certainly targeted by propaganda of various types, Olga. We all are. But I try to think critically about what I am told.
I have never been to Russia. I would like to visit certain places. St Petersburg looks like a very interesting place, to me, for example. However, I would be wary about visiting Russia in the current political climate, especially seeing as I have publically posted some negative things relating to the current Russian government and its leaders. For all I know, I could be arrested and imprisoned unjustly, if I were to visit.
Maybe one day after you have removed your dictator, I will feel safe enough to visit your beautiful country.
You think that you can tell the whole world how to live for someone. BIG BROTHER, fuck. WE DON'T NEED BIG BROTHER.
I think you already have Big Brother. It's been that way for most of the last 100 years in Russia, sadly.
Yes, it would look terrible if you didn't know the backstory. You have been bombing and killing the civilian population of Donbass for 8 years, and no one in the world, except Russia, was bothered by this.
Who is "you", here?
Donbass is a border region between Ukraine and Russia. Russian influence in the region led to talk of secession from Ukraine. But the bombing and killing didn't start until Russia decided to annex the territory from Ukraine, if I understand the history correctly.
More recently, Russia decided to try to annex the entirety of Ukraine. But Putin badly underestimated how strongly the Ukrainian people would resist that.
Now, the situation seems to be that Putin wants an endless war of attrition. He is content to waste thousands of young Russian lives in an endless war with Ukraine, in the hope that eventually Ukraine will just run out of people who are willing and able to fight to defend against the invasion.
Even the "conscience of the world", Europe, slept sweetly. Although, the whole world saw footage from Odessa, where people were burned alive in the House of Trade Unions, and those who tried to save themselves by jumping out of the windows were finished off with iron rods on the ground by fascist thugs. I also remember footage of a murdered woman who was 8 months pregnant, who was abused and then also killed that day. These murdered and tortured people did not commit any crime, they just wanted to speak their native language.
Let's assume all that happened. Does that justify the war crimes committed by the Russian military when Putin's latest invasion started? The mass graves of innocent civilians? Does it justify Russians ongoing targeting of civilians with drone attacks and the like? The indiscriminate bombing of Ukrainian cities?
Historically, Ukraine never existed as a separate state, until Lenin and the Bolsheviks created it artificially.
It exists as a separate state now. That is the reality. International law forbids wars of aggression started by state actors against other states.
I think we need to return not only Donbass, but also Kiev to Russia.
Like Putin, you seem to long for an ancient past where Russia "owned" more territory than it currently has. Bad luck, Olga. Ukraine is an independent state these days, and wars of aggression to take territory are illegal under international law.
Besides, the people of Kyiv do not want to become citizens of Russia and they do not want to be governed by its dictator.
And the Lviv region should be donated back to Poland and Hungary. There is still no benefit from it, neither economically nor culturally.
The Ukrainian people disagree with you.
And in Europe, you will be quite useful for burghers to wash toilets.
?
At the same time, learn European values, which hardly include torchlight processions in honor of the Nazi Bandera.
Do you believe Putin's propaganda that the Ukrainian people are Nazis, Olga? Do you accept this as justification for Putin's "special military operation"?
Yes, we have something to defend: Russia is larger than the United States and Europe combined (for comparison, 70 Great Britain would fit in Russia). Russia is the richest country in the world in terms of reserves of various natural resources. Russia is a country of strong people. Almost 200 different nationalities live in Russia. Russia cannot be defeated from the outside, many have broken their teeth on this.
It sounds like Russia can get along just fine without annexing Ukraine. Right? Seeing as how Russia is already so wonderful without Ukraine.
We have already grown up a new generation of people who do not bow to either the West or the Soviet Union...
What's the difference between Russia now and Russia during the Soviet era, in practical terms, for the common person?
I am also fluent in Ukrainian. My grandfather was Ukrainian.
We had a lot of guest workers who worked at one time. They also worked for me, at construction sites. They are cunning and thieving, as if on a pick-up. In general, I have always been against their joining us. To be honest, I don't like them, there is such a sin.
Are you referring to guest workers from Ukraine, or from elsewhere (the West?)
Are you saying you just don't like people from other countries, Olga? But you're not a nationalist?
