I enjoyed the episode of Enterprise i just watched until the end, which left me completely puzzled. 4 Ferengi took over the Enterprise. They were going to sell the women to slavers, strip the ship of its valuables, and do who knows what with the men. And at the end, after the crew of the Enterprise regain command of the ship, they send the Ferengi to a penal colony, right? Those were pretty serious crimes, right?

Nope. They tie up 3 of the Ferengi, put them in the custody of the 4th Ferengi, and send them on their way on the ship they came in on. This 4th Ferengi was going to commit the same exact crimes as the others were. He did nothing to redeem himself other than be nice to the Captain while ordering him around and be meek to the other Ferengi. And yet Captain Archer let all 4 of these criminals go.

Can someone please explain to me the rationale for this? That's just stupid. It's like they had to end a plot with the Ferengi in such a way so that the Federation wouldn't become aware of them so that when Captain Picard and his crew eventually encountered them, they wouldn't know who they were, since when TNG aired they weren't familiar with them. As if Archer wouldn't have filed reports on the Ferengi after this experience anyway. Idiotic.

I guess it's due to Hollywood's very influential anti-space'm-out-the-airlock lobby. ;)

Hmm

I thought the whole premise of 'Enterprise' with the temporal cold war made it an entirely different timeline? Or am i missing something... ?

That must be the case. I'm not familiar enough with it to be able to say.
