Fear and conspiracies are and have been key elements of Republican Party efforts to gain and hold political power. Fearful people do stupid and irrational things and they do it passionately. That fact isn't lost on those who lead and finance the Republican Party. That's why they feed and nurture these conspiracies as Abbot is doing.
