Just received a loud buzzing on my mobile and I thought it was spam. Severe Nationwide alert.

I better play some songs before the bombs drop.

У нас теперь обычное явление оповещение о ракетной опасности. И каждый день с 20-00 по 8-00 по московскому времени отключают мобильный интернет из-за атаки дронов.

Missile alerts are now a common occurrence here. And every day from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM Moscow time, mobile internet is shut down due to drone attacks.

I would love to be in a room for 5 mins with putin. he's a disgrace, nearly as bad as trump.

Only the second time it's been tested? I'm deeply surprised that GB didn't have a phone EAS before 2023. Not even weather alerts before then?

First time I've had one.

In the US, it's called Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). It includes weather alerts (not specifically mentioned below) -- events which are probably more severe than what the UK experiences in frequency. (Tornadoes in the UK are smaller and weaker, for instance.)

(1) National Alert: Alerts issued by the President of the United States or the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

(2) Imminent Threat Alert: split into Extreme and Severe categories, involving imminent threats to safety of life

(3) Public Safety Alert

(4) Amber alerts

No our weather hitherto has been too benign to need it. But now, who knows?
Also, we're a densely populated geography, so TV and paper news is usually sufficient. Especially for weather warnings. For other things we also have the "old biddy gossip network" that keeps people up to date with things that may or may not have been happening at a far more local level.
