hi......i'm having a problem with my pc .....every time i tried to boot up, it will reboot again and again....just after it enters the windows...i cannot see any problem with my hard disk since the booting up process is ok.

i'm using AMD K-2 processor...an outdated one but so far it didn't cause me any problem.....is it the cpu that cause the problem or what ? please advise ...thank you

Try to get another harddisk.
Set new harddisk as master, and your harddisk as slave.
Backup your data.
Set your harddisk as master again.
Boot from CD-Rom, and reinstall your OS.

Brute, but mostly works.

Btw, what's your OS? Windows98/2000(NT)/Linux?

adawiyah,

It sounds to me like you have a corrupt system file. Heres what you can do if you are running Windows:

1. Start windows in safe mode. Run Scandisk to check drive for errors. Set scandisk to automatically correct errors. When errors are found and corrected, turn computer off than on again. If error persists goto step 2.

2. Use the Startup Disk to boot your computer. If you do not have a Startup Disk, ask someone with a computer to make you one. Once your computer is booted with the Startup Disk, you will see the Dos command line. Place Windows CD in CD-Rom and change directory at Dos prompt to E or F. Run setup.exe on your Windows CD. This will install Windows over the Windows already installed on your computer and reinstall the corrupt system files.(your other files will not be deleted). Shut down computer and restart.

Hopefully this should work.

thanks

i'm using Win 98 and the speed is 450MHz .

so i guess ...this problem has nothing to do with my cpu ......right?

Adawiyah,

If it were your CPU your computer wouldn't boot up at all. It's likely that you have a bad hard drive sector and some system files are sitting in that sector.
