From what I can tell, it really doesn't make sense. Although it sorta tells people to keep their chin up.
Is it a cultural thing ? Or is it just me ? (The music's good though).

I know, I've been listening to it for a while. Is it just a warping of cliches ?

Always brings smile to my face though...Maybe i shouldn't try and make sense of it.
 
Those robots are actually real, and so fluidic and lifelike.
Given the right processing power, robots could imitate human facial expresions.

There's a few things that they do that aren't to bad and I can "tolerate" them to a certain extent. But overall I really think they aren't that great and should be classified as "alrap" which is almost rappers but not quite.
 
I've seen Beck twice. Once at Glastonbury in '97 and once at Wembleeee. Man he was amazing. He's like a modern day Prince. Only he doesn't creep you out like a dirty, perverted uncle.

Fair do's. I was just wondering what with your anti rap stance & all that. What's 'alrap' is that some kind of 'alternative rap' reference?

I coined the term "alrap" to have a cross between rappers and almost rappers. Beck fits this catagory so far but I know there are more, I just don't listen to this new stuff that much. I enjoy the 50's and 60's music that actually had a melody and decent lyrics that were uplifting and easy to understand.

Alrap... I like that. It sums up quite a few artists pretty well.


Yeah, I love a lot of the old stuff too. Some of my favourite records used to be my parents.

It was indeed. The gig was weird. No one was moving, it was sterile. Well, no the crowd was sterile, Beck was amazing. I was right at the back dancing my li'l ass off right behind some guy from Hollyoaks. Not that I watch Hollyoaks. I remember he picked up on it and asked the crowd if they were expecting a big, pink pig to fly over their heads or something. I loved it though. I can't understand how you can listen to his music and not need to move. What he did on those decks was amazing.

It's a shame he didn't get the Spanish right. The indefinite article un is awkward in this construction. Pronouns are seldom omitted in speech and are perfectly allowable in poetry, so he could have preserved the meter by saying Yo soy perdedor.

That's not unusual. It's the artist's job to find things deep inside him/deep inside us and present them. It's not his job to understand or explain them. Many poets, songwriters and other artists refuse to discuss the meaning of their work. In many cases it's because they don't want to influence our own interpretation of it, but in many others it's because they don't really know. :)
