Life Should be Common in the Universe, physicists say

I don't belong to Klaatu's Witnesses. Well, you're a strange person. Quantitative information can be useful, after all. We won't meet them because the distances are too far and it would take too long, nothing to do with the issues you mention. This is a science forum, and you should make some attempt to be rational here.

You're truly lousy at this conversion business, Skyward Evangelist. What's baffling is how the sarcasm still flies over your head when you're always looking in that direction.

Why, thanks. We are indeed not in the philosophy fora. To persuade me in this context, you need to present scientific evidence of alien civilizations as thick as blackberries having been detected and verified to some extent. Tons of literature and published papers about superstrings hasn't enabled it to get a free pass for eluding a requirement of evidence, either. Like I wrote earlier, simply buzz off if the OP's statement of "...we should be surrounded by other civilizations" is not what you are supporting. Otherwise, I'll continue to take it that this is what you are peddling, and have much in common with the door-knocking perseverance of Jehovah's Witnesses when frustrated that you have not swayed a potential recruit over to your gullible optimism (concerning whatever brand of sky daddy intelligences are "surrounding us", old school or the new ET variety).

Being surrounded is relative, and at what scale it is done.
Again, in a Universe, near infinite in numbers and extent, and with the stuff of life being everywhere we look, I would calculate that the overwhelming chances are that we are not alone.
And as others have noted, reasons why contact as yet has not happened, is simply because of two huge barriers, that being time and distance.

And finally, if the non zero chance that we are alone were true, it would raise far many more questions than that inevitable time we discover that life off the Earth does exist.

Yep. The first experimental radio transmissions which the ^%#**$& dabbled in 47 million years ago on planet RRRGH-CLICK-CLICK-BNSH in galaxy NGC 134 still have a while yet to reach us. Overcrowding is terrible in this neighborhood.

????
Do you know what the speed of light is? [fastest communication allowed]
Do you know how far the closest star to our solar system is?
Do you know how big our Milky Way galaxy is?
Do you know how many galaxies there are in the observable Universe?
Do you realize that even if we only had one adavanced civilisation per galaxy, how many there would be?

Like I said, time and distance are great barriers.
You maybe probably think the Earth is the centre of our galaxy and it is flat?

Is your brain wired in some peculiar way, laddie boy? If I write "square" do you think "circle"? What's the problem -- is English a second language for you? Or do you hallucinate whole tracts of imaginary passages in the middle of other people's posts?

If you are too stupid to answer the questions, just say so sonny boy.

I mean you are the one that believes in fabled giants, and Aliens performing anal probes on isolated individuals, and kidnapping others..... :D

Ahhh... I see , have you read anything on the topic , a book , inwhich you could refute anything about Giants of America , NO

Ignorance is not bliss !!!!!

Not really, I've just been witness to your gullibility on limited evidence and discussions in which you have been rail roaded completely.
Now how many Aliens or Alien UFO's have you seen?

More to the point, gullibility is ignorance.

You say this in total ingnorance

You have NO knowledge upon the subject and worse you have no inclination to explore the topic

Yet you have exalted yourself to know that this knowledge is false , with ignorance

Your delusional

OMG, so that's it. You really are some aspie who needs facetiousness explained to him (not to mention suffering a degree of cognitive blindness when it comes to extracting gender from avatars).

NGC 134 is a galaxy that is 60 million light-years away [even 47 million years would thus not long be enough for it reach Earth (among other difficulties). "Overcrowding is terrible in this neighborhood" is the ironic, joking element. Now, do you additionally need me to hold your hand and clarify that a species of ETs called "^%#**$8" and planet named RRRGH-CLICK-CLICK-BNSH are intentionally fictional? You were so deep in dimwit country that even that wasn't an obvious tip-off?

Now I guess I just sit back and get another laugh at how horribly you mangle and misunderstand the above. [For anybody else passing by who also experiences a lot of sonic booms over their head, note that I don't really believe that this adolescent snot has Asperger's syndrome, which would be insult to that group to include him].

I took a picture of us all sitting around the table telling jokes about the FSM. (#108)

If you look at the logical and intuitive certainty of life elsewhere in the universe, and compare this to hard data stemming from sending and listening to radio transmissions to contact life in the universe, the organic imagination transmission/reception process says, yes, while the metal technology transmission says no data. That being the case, maybe NASA needs to get some psychics. They often have better tuning capability in their organic transmitters/receivers, so they can help direct the inorganic metal transmitters.

The practical problem using the organic imagination, is most scientists use 1-D organic transmitter/receivers, due to only being conscious using the left brain. The left brain is rational and differential. But 1-D hearing is omnidirectional, like a sub-woofer, therefore one cannot locate the source in space. We can hear the source intellectually, but can't find the subwoofer. The default is to direct the metal antennae randomly.

You need people with 2-D organic transmitter/receivers or those who can consciously used both side of the brain. This gives stereoptic hearing to the imagination, which makes it easier to locate a source, in a more efficient way. Then you point the metal antenna.

Ultimately, only the organic imagination receiver is picking up a signal, but it is only hears mono-tone.
