I have lived on the US West Coast and have met his type. I think he's genuine - an elderly hippie who likes Gurdjieff and paranormal weirdness. If there's a bunch of old folks around an Oregon cracker barrel or perched on barstools, or sitting on the dock of the bay wasting time, he's the one who likes to fire off unfiltered opinions and speculations, keeping his compadres amused.
