Noem replaced as DHS secretary with Oklahoma senator


President Trump on Thursday announced he was replacing Kristi Noem as Department of Homeland Security secretary with Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) in the first major shake-up of his Cabinet in his second term.

Trump said in a Truth Social post Noem had served her role well and would be shifting to the role of special envoy for “The Shield of Americas,” a new initiative for the Western Hemisphere.

Another thread going on this, too. I don't think anyone had heard of the Shield of the Americas. It's likely Turnip just pulled it from his poop chute.

Nah, it's just another name for the policy of bringing together like-minded right-wing leaders of the Latin American countries (central and southern) to reach agreements that further US aims. It's part of the overall foreign policy that his administration released, that all but effectively admitted they want to interfere with other countries' elections to bring in right-wing leaders. Including in Europe. This is just the Latin America part of that.

Well thanks to you both, Killjoy and Sarkus. FWIW, I did do some Google Kwan Do after posting my ignorance. I had known there was this wooing of the Latin American RW, but not that this informal conference had coalesced. I remain convinced however that the silly name Shield of the Americas was pulled from someone's evacuation tunnel. Nice Vallejo-esque pic.

Reminds a bit of how Nick Fuentes has recently become disillusioned by pretty much all of his Nazi brethren on the interwebs. A turn which seems to have been sparked by the godawful TP USA Super Bowl halftime show (seriously!). Last I heard (I think), Fuentes is now referring to himself as a "Democrat".
