Kill The Bastards!!!

The kind of rhetoric that is exemplified by the US media needs to stop. There are options.....like the truth. Ever since the 24 hour news outlet has hit the airwaves, we are getting a rehashing of facts so often, they become the news themselves.

Lets find the people responsible, put them on trial, and if convicted imprision them according to the legal system. Anything else makes us as bad as them.

"KILL THE BASTARDS!!! " as a guest on CNN said, I think not.

Thankyou, tmegeney. I'm getting tired of all this "kill, kill, kill" crap. You speak the truth.

Thanks for pointing that out, tmegeney. As Crisp pointed out I'm starting to think all the Americans cry for is blood. If I didnt know some personally then I would think so.

Reason only works with reasonable people.

There's a political war going on now where we're trying to get Islamic people to join in the battle against Afganistan so those in Afganistan will see that Islam has NOTHING to do with the war. That will help decrease support for Bin Laden. Otherwise it will be perceived as a "Holy War" of Islam vs the West and that won't be good.

These threads pop up about America overreacting because apparently you're not watching the news or really understanding what's going on.

Pay attention. And when you get your facts straight maybe you'll see the emotion is not guiding the actions. Or not.

Mention "kill terrorists" and every extreme minded individual thinks we want to wipe out the whole country. Then you present a "better version" which in reality is pretty exactly what we're trying to do. But since Bin Laden ain't comming out, we're going in. Many are going to die and that's reality.

Good job. Just turn off the TV if you can't understand it. Maybe read a book or something. You're idealist views of the world are best suited for fantasy worlds.

Here in reality we have a war on our hands for very good reason and it's not going to be a short one.

And I used to think that the word "hang 'em high" didn't have a meaning anymore...

Hi all,

Bowser,

Public hangings ? Perhaps we could even construct a small background set of a wild-west town, and have some people dress up in cowboyheads and ride horses. Now that would be some excellent TV, wouldn't it ? Not. :).

As I've always understood, Americans carry justice and democracy in their hearts. Justice means that:
1) A man is innocent until proven guilty. This excludes convictions in the public opinion.
2) Every man has a right to get a fair trial, no matter how horrible the crime. I actually wonder where on earth the US Justice department is going to find a jury that is not prejudged by the media.

One of the things of a (representative) democracy is that decisions are not made by the public, but by representatives in parliaments (or congress). The final decision is up to them, whether the public wants to hang 'em high or not. (Unfortunately, members of parliaments/congress probably want to get re-elected so they are driven by public's emotions).

So you claim to have the greatest democracy on earth ? Time to live by it.

KalvinB,

Just turn off the TV if you can't understand it. Maybe read a book or something. You're idealist views of the world are best suited for fantasy worlds.

Read between the lines and you'll see that there is a lot more to a conflict in the Middle-East than just "smoking out and hunting down terrorists". The people here who you claim to have idealistic views are actually the ones being realistic. I'd rather say that the people who scream for war have a naive view on the situation.

Here in reality we have a war on our hands for very good reason and it's not going to be a short one.

That depends on what you think is the real reason for "America's New War" (as CNN has already dubbed it). I totally agree that this is not going to be a short conflict. We're looking at several years here, with loads of American military, and Middle-East civilian casualties.

I wonder how the media is gonna cover up all the women and children that get gunned down by a NATO intervention. Let me remind you that in case the Middle-East people see this as a holy war, they will all fight until their death, including women and children. Unfortunately from the moment they pick up a piece of glass or a knife to engage NATO troops, they become soldiers aswel. And knowing some of the "elite troops" in my country, I already have the feeling they will be more than eager to gun down anything that walks in their way.

Bye!

Crisp

If the US were facing reality, we would realize that war is not going to stop the problem of terrorism. As it's been pointed out over and over again, it's been tried before. It doesn't work. Waging this war, and killing more innocent civilians is only going to escalate terrorism and a host of other problems right along with it.

Reason is for Everyone

Reason is for everyone, and it does work on everyone. To believe otherwise is to say that some people are better than others. And that my friends is just not true.

I completely understand that the FBI and the police are doing their job in a methodical way and doing their best to complile information related to who the hijackers are. BUT its the media that are fanning the fires of discontent and spreading the message of retribution.

Oh and by the way, frontier justice worked on the frontier, but this is not the American West anymore. If Osama Bin Laden is found alive, he needs to be tried at the World Court, not in an American one. Not that it would make a great deal of difference though.

As far as TV goes, by all means watchit, but keep an open mind while doing so.

<i>"(Unfortunately, members of parliaments/congress probably want to get re-elected so they are driven by public's emotions).

Constituents are speaking, I'm sure. Our rep's are listening.

Do they listen????

I wonder...does politics work in the US like it does in Canada? With the new administration just being elected, are they really worried about what the public thinks in 4 years? This "war" (believe it or not) will just be a memory in 4 years. (How often do you discuss the reasons behind the less then aptly named "Operation: Desert Storm"?)

In Canada, policy makers are much more worried about what electors think coming into an election year, not after any event. All of of representatives are human and we should not endow them with any great special reasoning skills. They have the same emotional subsets as the rest of us.

Try this little test.
Who was behind the bombing in Oklahoma?
What militia group did he belong to?
How many died?
What was the name of the building?
How long did it take to bring him to justice?

Can you readily answer all of those questions? How long ago was that?

Nobody should post their responses to those questions here. It just goes to show you that as humans we have a tremendous ability to forget. I for one am extremely glad of that otherwise everyone would still be involved in clan wars that were begun 100's or 1000's of years ago. I think that politicians play on this knowledge as well. Make no mistake, they will take a measured response, and they will cover their own asses. And all that we'll remember in a few years is the grief that we felt when the act happened and the elation when Bin Laden was brought to justice (if he is). No details. And we lose the World in the details....

Hanging people?? I knew there were plenty of inbred hicks residing in the USA, but I thought they began to become assimalated, or something, well I used to think so. What makes you think you have the right to kill another human being even if they killed hundreds. Thats up to G-d. Guys like that always get what they deserve. Eg. In grade 4 I was a chubby kid. This one guy who I couldve easilly beaten up would always insult me. I just ended up telling him something bad would happen to him. Well guess what.....one year later when he was skateboarding he got hit by a car. How do you like that G-ds wrath? I'm not saying we should not imprison them, I'm just saying that We dont have the right to punish or torture them. Stick em in prison and throw away the key. Dont try to get them to hate you even more. It's people like them that stop us from living in world peace and it's people like Bowser that stop us from living in that 'Fantasy world'.

Sure this time I have a good belief and all signs point to Saddam and Osama. But lets face the music that you obviously didnt learn in kindergarten; violence doesnt solve anything.

The Puritans probably would have called you a witch and burned you at the stake. Or I suppose they might give you trial by water, hold your head under for a while, all you have to do be found innocent of being a witch is die.
