Hi all! I see that some changes have been made, for the better, and have seemingly taken effect: Let me quickly make a few remarks without rehashing what James labeled my goodbye thread. Firstly to Bells, no I am not a liar, but in one point I did err. James certainly did not infract me for calling timojin gullible and impressionable, but he did infer to it as an adhom...my point was the hypocrisy in that he has used it himself, although he somehow claims his usage did not mean the same as my usage. Secondly, no Dave, I don't see myself as a martyr, but some of what you said does have some truth. I see any science forum as primarilly a science forum, with the onus on those that feel like over throwing incumbent theories, making other unscientific claims, or pushing the supernatural and paranormal, to supply evidence. The forum I participate in now also has these "nuts" but they are quickly despatched, if they fail to supply the evidence or contravene the scientific methodology.
My real underlying reason for leaving, was simply I was spending too much time on the damn forum, answering and attempting to refute and/or invalidate the many nuts that were seemingly given a free reign. The Mrs was on my back re lack of domestic duties, so in that respect, I must thank James and rpenner for giving me reason to pull the plug. The forum I'm now participating in does not need attention as much as like I said, nuts are (1) quickly despatched, and (2) always refuted and/or their nonsense invalidated. It has made for a nice change.

Thanks to Dave, who I see as one of the true applicants of applying science and the scientific method, without the hypocrisy of a couple of others who criticised me for adhoms etc, and then showed an incredible amount of stupid hypocrisy when finally the nuts did get to them. Both of you need to take a leaf out of Dave's book. Thanks also to Kittamaru for his application of the rules and the scientific methodology and not letting any nut get away with anything. The other mods could learn a lot from your impartiality despite your personal beliefs. I dips me lid to you.

In saying all that, James may like to label it ? my comeback, thread, although as yet I havn't quite made up my mind...I have never yet contributed to two forums at the same time...that's just me, but hey! who knows? If I do decide to (nudge nudge, wink, wink) I hope to be posting more incredible and noteworthy scientific content for comment, but hopefully with less conflict, and probably certainly with less content although I hope improved quality.
I see more content also from Dywyddyr, another adherent to logic, sensibility, science and the scientific methodology: Just what the place needs!

Paddoboy, if you felt you were posting on here too much, or your wife felt you were not spending enough time doing house duties, then really, it's best to just take a break.

But you chose to go out in spectacular fashion, by stating untruths about staff on this site and giving a certain false impression about your treatment here. I went back with a fine tooth comb and frankly, from where I and others were sitting, you gave every appearance that you were lying. You should also keep in mind that the sheer level of insults in your post saw your post have to be edited to remove a lot of it, why do that? I mean, I don't get the reason for saying what you said in the manner that you said it.

What I am trying to say is that when choosing to leave or not post anymore, it's best to not burn every bridge in doing so to go out in spectacular fashion. It was foolish and really unnecessary. And it was petty.

And now you return, and post this. For what? To let us know that you were deeply unsatisfied (we kind of got that from your goodbye post, and more) but the real reason you actually had to leave was because your wife was suggesting you weren't doing enough at home? If that's the reason, then state that. There was no need to abuse and insult staff on the way out and there was certainly no reason to do so on the basis of your error. I mean, you haven't even apologised for what you said that was based on a 'mistake' on your part. That might be a start, don't you think?

As for your usage of "gullible and impressionable".. Well, you used it quite a bit. And the manner in which you used it which saw James ask you if it was really necessary, he wasn't wrong. It wasn't necessary or really warranted at that point in time.

You wanted to go out in a blaze of glory.. That was your choice and you did it based on your misunderstanding. That's no one else's fault but yours.

Look mate, you aren't the first to do this and you certainly won't be the last. But don't try and justify your behaviour when it was based on your making an error and I am sorry to say, a complete arse of yourself in the process.

Paddoboy I view your return with mixed feelings.

On the one hand, I have always valued very much your interest and capacity for posting a stream of good topics of discussion from which we can all learn.

On the other, your past tendency to pick fights and wage vendettas grew to be an enormous bore, to the point that I was greatly relieved when you left, as the forum immediately became a more peaceful and civilised place upon your departure. One or two of your bȇtes noires have, thankfully, now been excreted. I do hope you will not search for new targets to replace them and that you will use the Ignore feature when necessary, rather than feeling obliged to respond to absolutely everything you disagree with. I am sure the missus would also appreciate the saving in time this will make. :biggrin:

I offer you therefore a rather guarded welcome, hoping you will now do your best to avoid getting into this cycle of behaviour again, but also looking forward very much to a resumption of the stream of reports of new science that we were able to enjoy in the past, thanks to your enthusiasm.

Paddoboy, I had an opportunity to read your original post. It was harsh on rpenner, generally academics are soft hearted people, and its my feeling (i may be wrong) that he could not handle your extremely abusive post. He was an asset and he has gone.

In your exit post you reasoned out that jamesR and rpenner were bad to you, so you are leaving but now in this the cause as stated by you is something else. In real life your position could have been untenable, but here in cyber forum, welcome back.

You know why I went because I gave too much importance to you and Brucep, but when I realized that both of you are academically not at all equipped but still teaching GR, I felt disgusted. But still I liked your enthusiasm.
