Ok, you may have already noticed how, despite being dumber than a bucket of hammers, they swan through life in their yachts and limos and private jets, stopping to take a big Trumpian piss wherever they see something beautiful and unspoiled. Albania has taken notice. Money talks, corruption reigns, and people in the streets start to wonder if Albania could do better. Cue the Flamingo Revolution.

The protests, which became popularly known as the Flamingo Revolution (Albanian: Revolucioni i Flamingove), were triggered by the government's handling of preparatory works and proposed luxury tourism developments linked to the Sazan Island and Zvërnec resort project, backed by American investor Jared Kushner. One of the things some of our members might be too young to remember is how, in the 20th century, people were expected to understand that not everything is sincere in that way, or something. I don't know, to be honest, I always thought it was just making excuses, like telling a woman to learn to take a joke.

But that doesn't mean it didn't have its germ of truth: Virtually anytime notorious discourse swirls around someone who happens to be Jewish, antisemites will come out to play. Yes—

—of course JTA will make the point, but once upon a time our threshold for worry had something to do with the difference between the usual suspects saying the usual suspect stuff, and, say, the people around you who ostensiby weren't antisemites suddenly start trafficking in the stuff.

And Judaism has about as much to do with Jared Kushner being terrible as being male, or the color of his skin, &c. A wasp raised on the same privilege and family values would behave the same way, and we don't pretend similarly about the whole of Christendom.

That is to say, people shouldn't let the history of antisemitism distort their view of Jared Kushner as an awful person.

I really don’t give a flying fuck about that crap from Israel. I think we’ve had a bellyful of whining about antisemitism from those murderous thugs.

This is about destroying a nature reserve so Kushner and the Trump dynasty can get even richer. That Kushner is a Jew is neither here nor there. But trust the Israelis to bring that up, in order to muddy the issue with off-the-point accusations of antisemitism.

Any anti-Zionism among some segments of the protesters might not be completely unwarranted. Rama is an ardent supporter of Israel and its actions in Gaza. That Judeophilia assisted a perfect match-up for bringing the transaction about with Kushner. But the momentum of the resort protest unexpectedly evolved and turned into an anti-elitist route for potentially toppling Rama. He waffled a tad (perhaps due to that) but snapped back to defending the "partnership".

It's curious from the standpoint of whether the "in league with Zionists" depiction of Rama is truly native or being exported from other countries (like Russian or Iranian trolls). I expect it's a bit of both, since there seems to be genuine homegrown animus toward Rama, and that's got to be weed-littered with at least some irritation about his love affair with Israel. Which someone like Kushner (a fellow wooer) just comes along and kind of inflames further with Sazan, etc.
