Is the brain necessary for consciousness?

Only if there's an empty cavity where the brain should be.
Do zombies have souls? It seems that the brain sucking zombies crave the taste of brains, or is that the souls give flavor to brains?

Here taste this. She must have had a spicy soul, I taste a hint of hot pepper...

I think the souls left the bodies when they died - so even the purest of heart (soul) can become a zombie after death.
Do animals have souls?
Heaven would be so dull without a "destruction" of kitties running around.
How about whales? Or are they too heavy?
Oops, no water in heaven? Damn.....

This Thread seems to have strayed from the initial theme. The following addresses the digression from brain & consciousness to thoughts about the soul.

I consider the soul to be a religious myth. Some of the views of it in fiction are weird.

Example: "Calling Mr. Jordan" or some such name for a strange story. The names in my short synopsis may not be correct & many details of the plot are omitted.

Angel of Death takes the soul of Joe prematurely to save him from a painful death in an accident.

Joe happens to be an athlete with incredible reflexes & would have avoided the accident to live another 50 years.

Joe's body is destroyed in the accident & Mr. Jordan (emissary from Heaven) is given the job of finding a body to house Joe's soul for the next 50 years.

Bill is an athlete murdered by gamblers's & Joe's soul is put into Bill's body, which is reanimated.

The body will have Bill's memories & thought processes up to the time of his death.

It seems to me that Bill is the one given an extra 50 years, not Joe.

Question for other Posters: Who got the extra 50 years of life?

NO

your not reading what I said in post#47
I'm reading it. I'm just having trouble making sense of it. If the "soul" is not a function of the brain, what is it? How do you detect it so that you know what it is and what it is not?

That is the thing , if the soul is not a function of the brain , then the soul has a existence of its own .

" If ' was my mistake , since the evidence proves that a brain cavity has intelligence
Yes, a brain cavity has intelligence but the question was whether or not it has a "soul" and if so, how do you know?

intelligence
Do animals have souls? Many have great intelligence. Hominids are but one of several species of animal with highly developed logical mirror neural networks. They act by conscious choice, in addition to the sub-conscious motor functions which regulate the pure physical chemistry that keeps all living things alive.

certainly possible

life is a form of energy
Is energy intelligent, or is life intelligent? How about a pseudo-intelligent matrix by which physical events may happen. Why should both life and intelligence not be emergent evolutionary expressions of Pure energy, because the mathematical matrix allows for those probabilities to occur.
