Information About The Jewish People And Judaism

Does Jewish culture borrow from Egyptian culture? Does Judaism borrow from Egyptian religion? I believe that the Jews spent some time in Egypt before the founding of Israel.
 
I am not sure that there is much historical/archaeological support for the Exodus story, although it seems quite possible that there were some (many?) Jews in Egypt in ancient times.

Note that the Exodus story of Jews wandering for decades prior to settling in Israel has little support from archaeology. Decades of wandering should have left some burial sites & artifacts (EG: Pottery shards & broken/discarded tools).​

Judaism has a long history of believing in one god, while the Egyptians have a similarly long history of having multiple gods. (Isis, Osiris, Horus, & Ra being a few of them). I do not know of cultural similarities, but do not consider myself to be knowledgeable of the two ancient cultures.

Note that any two cultures with tools more advanced than Stone Age tribes would have a lot of similar tools.

I was not sure if the Book of Exodus or the possibility of any Jews residing in Egypt for some time in the past during the time specified by Exodus, if Exodus does specify a time, is supported by scientific evidence. If they had coexisted for some time back then I would imagine that the Jews and their religion, language, or culture may have been influenced by Egyptian religion, language, or culture to some degree during that time.

i think it is useful to keep in mind the social and authoritative pyramid structure of ancient Egypt.
Like many to most groups, the leadership defines what is acceptable and what is not as the masses follow along and endorse or reject depending on the amount of bloody Fascist control is held over the people.

the Pharaohs were deemed to be the word of the gods and could assign belief as required.
this allowed them to change god allegiances and have bloody enforcement of that.

Suggesting that Egyptians believed in many gods is equal to saying Egyptians had only one god.
the sentence by its self means absolutely nothing without a background of understanding into the systems and history.

would you say modern civilization believes in many gods ?

Sorry, I phrased my question poorly. What I meant to ask was besides Judaism, Christianity, and Islam being Abrahamic Religions what else do they share in common?
 
Christian's kind of accept the Torah. Islam kind of accept the Torah up to the point that it stops mentioning Ishmael.

very clearly
there is significant findings of pharaohs destroying iconography and re-writing history to erase gods and leaders.

additionally there are discovered secret religions where various banned gods were worshiped.

there is considerable literature on the subject

while generally the pharaoh would publicly endorse and or show favor or neglect to endorse various gods and their temples.
this is a fairly well known basic process that has been surmised through collective archeology & historical writings and engravings/literature etc

some gods were considered too important to the people so would be endorsed to maintain popularity(much like modern politicians)

since the state managed all aspects of mass food cultivation as a process to enable massive armys of builders, they simply changed projects to build a temple to a different god, or changed the temple being built to be for a different god.
people would not refuse or they would not have a job.
though some operated as merchants they still relied heavily on the government system, much like todays reliance on the financial system to acquire food and resources.

I had seen about that on television. I recall a pharaoh, I would need to research for him / her to remember, defacing statues to cover up a past pharaoh.
 
I remember thinking Judaism was the worlds first monotheistic religion. I believe it is actually Zoroastrianism, and ancient Persian religion existing about 4000 years ago. I believe it is also still in existence.

The pharaoh I was trying to remember was Akhenaten. Akhenaten is remembered today for trying to change ancient Egyptian religion. His attempts were not widely accepted and after his death his memory and image has erased by the Egyptians.
