Has anybody read these books by Dan Simmons? Awesome read. It's way more than science fiction, its just a really great literary work (if you like scifi that is ;) )

Since nobody has read these books..maybe you guys should! Go buy HYPERION, now! (By Dan Simmons)

Hey, I've read them. Although I didn't really much like the fourth one, the first two were excellent!

When I first picked up Hyperion, I had to put it down because the first 30 or so pages were difficult to get into, but then I went back to it and was amazed at Simmons' literary skill. Doesn't he use a lot of the same style as Keats? I'm pretty sure that Keats has a poem or something called Hyperion, in fact.

Suffice to say, good read indeed!

Thanks!

Yes, I've read them, and it is one of my favourite science-fiction series. The first is a bunch of short stories to set the scene, and after that it just gets funky. :)

Actually, i've read somewhere that Simmons' "Hyperion" books are a sci-fi version of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" which was written a long while ago... Its also something of a tribute to Keats, and Frank Lloyd Wright too

Them books are pretty interesting, some of the better books i've ever read in fact

Hyperion et al form a superb SF quartet that combine a multitude of literary styles. It first reminded me of Chaucer's Canterbury tales, where the pilgrims to Canterbury tell each other stories to while away the time. Then, Simmons' adaptation of Keats' poems and style is simply fantastic in the SF context.
It's really a must-read!
