By weight, numbers, and longevity, I believe it's bacteria that are dominating the planet. Humanity is thus far a "flash in the pan", a "one-hit wonder".

Well, no truely documented cases of encounters with aliens, however consider the possiblity that we could easily be seen as not even worth talking to...
