How are adults talked into believing in fantasy creatures, miracles and magic?

Please ignore that I do not believe in any invisible entity. I would like this thread to be about you.
I also have rejected the notion of anything being able to breach the limits of nature and physics.
No miracles allowed in my theology.

If you do not follow your religion because of culture and tradition, when did you begin to be a believer?

Can you describe how you were made to believe in fantasy or imaginary creatures?

Were you an adult at that time or a child?

If a child, could this real phenomena be what caused you to believe?

Ants have no idea we exist. Get science to explain that humans absolutely exist if ants do not understand we exist, then i will listen to your comments, ala richard dawkins style of patronising.

Science cannot explain why ants have no idea we exist, so if ants have no understanding we exist, you telling me something could not be hidden from our perception.

If you are into science explain as an absolute fact that humans exist and are shaped as we think. Science cannot.

This thread is just patronising, as people that cannot do something always want others to explain stuff to them, and show them. Shall we show ants maths, shall we, and would they understand it?

Your thread is patronising nonsense, science has no idea how to explain that humans absolutely exist and are in the form we think we are. Ants have no idea we exist, so you telling us that we could not be blocked from knowing about others. Science has no idea, and neither do you.

If you cannot answer those questions, you cannot bring that richard dawkins rubbish style debate to anything, other some patronising rubbish about how humans science is all knowing.

I personally will believe in anything i want, science has no explanation for any of the stuff. Science is not know it all, and never will be. If you do not believe in something, thats your bag, does not make you a know it all, and omniscient.

One thing i have learned in life is most people know nout about nout, and that includes science people.

Adults, as well as children enjoy being together in a social setting with others that are similar to themselves. So it isn't that far fetched to understand why religions started because they brought people together to mingle about with each other and to get to know each other. Society is built in that same fashion, people in a community trying to establish a better community for themselves and their children. Religion takes that idea one step further and interjects a diety into the society so that they now have one thing in common that they all can "believe" in and become a stronger society.

Ants absolutely understand we exist, especially if we try to squash one, the other ants will attack you.

Fear and Loathing of The Fundamentalist Kind

From a very young age I was taught that only people that believed like my mother or whatever preacher she endorsed were going to heaven. I vividly recall films of the rapture, and of being left behind in a terrible post apocalyptic world to fear me into believing in the God of Abraham. My mother still embraces her vengeful god and so do my five siblings to some degree, I escaped the nonsense only because of my analytical nature. The irony here is I chose the more loving teachings of Jesus from an early age and progressed to rejecting Yahweh completely and the godhood of Christ, although I still embrace many of the teachings of Jesus. Ultimately there was a freedom from the chains of religion but the letting go was quite painful for me.

So stronger societies are those whose people can be made to believe anything including lies.

Ok.

I think that you are correct. I can see where religions would prefer to have gullible people follow them instead of those who can think.

How can you know what ants know or do not know?

You speak for God so I guess it is a small leap for you to speak for animals.

Besides, we are talking about what people believe. The fact that humans may not know everything isn't an excuse to believe in something without evidence. It's only making an argument for skepticism.

It would be for sure. P)ear pressure is a bitch.
I cannot blame you for picking Jesus over the O T God although I do not see how you can pick one version of God from the bible and reject his father.

Regardless of that. Have a look at the Jesus I like and whose theology is worthy.

I have an annoying and habitual penchant for believing magical creatures called "persons" exist. As of yet I haven't found any scientific way of proving they do though. All I ever see of these invisible and intangible "persons" are bodies making various gestures, facial expressions, and sounds that I assume are being created by some inner imperceptible person. If I should dissect a body though I am quite sure I would find no trace of an intending, feeling, perceiving and freely-thinking person inside. All I'd find is great gobs of bloody self-electrifying meat. Am I a fool to believe in the existence of persons? Do I need to go thru some scientific rehab to rid me of this obstinate superstition once and for all?

Alas, the belief in personhood is so entrenched in me I actually imputed that 3 letter word on a screen "Yup" to an invisible free-thinking agent called spidergoat. Please be patient with me as I seek a cure for this innocuous delusion of my mind.

Take your time.

I believe in persons too. But the persons I believe in aren't magical, they are quite natural. And they are far from invisible and intangible. In fact, they ARE the bodies you see.

A person is not just their body. We know this from observing "their" body..yes we speak of bodies as possessions or tools of the person..being manipulated by an invisible intending entity called a person or self. We say "you moved your arm", you referring to a causal agent separate from your arm. We DON'T say "your arm moved itself". Indeed should our arm ever "move itself" we'd experience it as a reflex or a twitch, NOT something we ever intended or caused outselves.

I can't figure out which you hate worse - science or English. You must have had a terrible grade school experience.

I've never met a person without a body. As such, I have no reason to think that a person can exist without one. I have seen inanimate bodies. We usually refer to these people as "dead".
