When we went to digit tape I was amazed that the format was not like standard tape. Standard tape runs liner. Digital tape runs diagonal. Hdtv has a lot higher resolution. This requires that the transmittion carry more info. While older tv's can't use that much info. So how do they filter out the extra stuff? I don't think that most stations are set up for it. And if they are then the satellites aren't. So even if you have the HDTV you still can't make total use of it.
