Here's a weather site.

Palm Sunday 1965. Took us a week to find a neighbor. We didn't find him first.
I did see a tornado when I was in the mid west back in the 70s.(and a "wind devil" in my own garden a good few years back)

It was a similar visual experience to seeing the boats on the Suez Canal in 56.

My mother told me to wave to the Captain as he was our Uncle Gordon and the Commodore of the Fleet.

No idea if it was true but the boats looked like they were "sailing on the sand" as you couldn't see the Canal at all.

Animals?

I was stationed in Sicily when peace broke out, 1973. Our USN minesweeper were clearing the mines from the Canal and I got picked to run the R&R tent (Six pinball machines and six pool tables.) Mundane job, like most in the military, until a camel decided our tent was talking trash about his lady (or something) and attacked it. If you've never seen a camel try to tap dance on a pool table you've missed a lot.

1965 tornado tracking to the north east across northern Illinois. I tried to catch it ---turn left, then right, then left, then right, etc...
I was constrained by the road grid while the tornado was cutting a diagonal path. All I saw was the destruction in it's wake. (and, off in the distance, the tornado it's self)
I never did catch up to that tornado.

Same with the Nile. Went down to the relocated temple at Abu Simbel by microbus back in the '70s. Cruising along next to a boat that sailing over the sand on your left.
