Harrison Ford Is a Secret Conservation Hero
Harrison Ford has been revealed as the mastermind behind a quiet 15-year campaign to turn huge areas of the world into national parks. Ford has been working with big business bigwigs such as the bosses of British Petroleum (BP), Starbucks and Bank of America as part of the Conservation International initiative. And after a string of major successes, which has seen the charity either purchase or corral 1.4 per cent of terrestrial earth for nature conservation areas, Ford is now stepping forward to try and create a "nature corridor" from the Arctic, through America, to the equator. Conservation International hope this corridor will allow disappearing creatures to migrate and breed safely. Ford admits world leaders and international business hotshots are initially bemused when the CI leaders approach them with their conservation ideas, but the charity has had massive successes. He says, "This is a war without an evil enemy. We're strategic and pragmatic and we're assessing the problem. We have had some success and our ideas are things that are being suggested and bought into." Conservation International currently has secured 123 million acres for protection - and in the process the charity has discovered two new species of ape in South America, where they have created four national parks each the size of California.
