I think you can make a reasonable arguement that Jimmy Carter did. (I think he got one, but am not sure of this.)Does anyone know if there was ever a nobel prize winner for peace who deserved the prize?

2006 - Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank - dunno him
He started the micro credit financing that is being used in all low income groups in Asia, Africa and Latin America
1999 - Médecins Sans Frontières - she sounds french...
aka Doctors without Borders; international group of physicians who work in conflict ridden areas
1997 - International Campaign to Ban Landmines - must be royalty or something with such a long name
They helped to ban the landmines that were buried in conflict ridden areas: unfortunately they have been replaced by cluster bombs
1991 - Aung San Suu Kyi ???
She's the one trying to get rid of the military junta in Burma.
Has been under house arrest for decades, I think; they threw her in prison during this months uprising there
It was reported that she had been moved the following day to Insein Prison (where she had been detained in 2003)[43] [44][45][46], but meetings with UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari near her Rangoon home on 30 September and 2 October established that she remained under house arrest[
I think the people who benefitted from the actions of these people/organisations would disagree.
And what percentage of the world's population would that be, Sam? And since I already know it's so small as to be miniscule, how could that possibly qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize?
Al Gore makes a biased movie, not unlike something that fat man makes, and makes a few propaganda speeches, and he's awarded the peace prize?
Yazar Arafat killls a few Israelis, yells a lot about a "homeland", and he gets awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?
So, what ....next year they'll award the prize to Blackwater Security for protecting some diplomat?
Or perhaps they'll aware it to the Burma Military government for being lenient to the protestors by not shooting more of them?
Isn't the "peace" prize supposed to be about bringing peace???? Where did they suddenly go so wrong?

In the harsh political atmosphere then prevailing, it was not surprising that Linus Pauling gradually became isolated and ostracized, primarily on suspicion of being a Communist.
Perhaps its about recognising the persons desire and intent to devote their lives to the effort. Wouldn't you say its something that deserves recognition, if only to focus attention to what they are trying to accomplish and perhaps add to their endeavor?
Yes, wars, open and hidden, still exist.Did he or the organization actually bring peace?
...
Did they bring peace to anywhere?
...
Did it work? Did it bring peace to anywhere?
...
And did she bring peace to the nation?
...
The Nobel Peace prize is actually a big fuckin' joke. For one thing, there's no peace anywhere, and hasn't been for decades if not longer.
Baron Max
I will die along with everyone else, but I am old and do not expect to live for ever, but please nominate me for the Nobel peace prize now, as I will bring true and lasting peace to the entire world.
Thus, only I qualify for the prize, I am sure you agree.
Yeah, after he helped whip things into a violent frenzy of terrorism and reprisal killings. He was a large part of the reason they needed to have peace negations in the first place.Like him or not (I don't), Arafat did help bring Israel and the Palestinians closer to a peace agreement than they had ever been.
No, we should simply learn to live with it. I mean, nothing we can do to stop it for centuries, and by that time, we might invent a giant vacuum cleaner to clean up the atomsphere, for god's sake!!!
Global warming is here to stay for a while .....live with it ..'cause there ain't nothin' you can do to stop it.
Baron Max
Yeah, but I think Noak probably misunderstood the orders to save the animals, and he and his family climbed on by mistake!! And thus save the human race, and thus fucked up the whole world.
Baron Max
While you are nominating me for the peace prize based on my nano/genetic hybrid new life form (No DNA or RNA etc) that releases many toxic rapidly mutating viruses that will eradicate all conventional life forms, finally establishing ever lasting peace on Earth. (More detail in post 51.)Yeah, but I think Noah probably misunderstood the orders to save the animals, and he and his family climbed on by mistake!! And thus save the human race, and thus fucked up the whole world. Baron Max
ONE of the world's foremost meteorologists has called the theory that helped Al Gore share the Nobel Peace Prize "ridiculous" and the product of "people who don't understand how the atmosphere works".
Dr William Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, told a packed lecture hall at the University of North Carolina that humans were not responsible for the warming of the earth.
"We're brainwashing our children," said Dr Gray, 78, a long-time professor at Colorado State University. "They're going to the Gore movie [An Inconvenient Truth] and being fed all this. It's ridiculous."
Dr Gray, whose annual forecasts of the number of tropical storms and hurricanes are widely publicised, said a natural cycle of ocean water temperatures - related to the amount of salt in ocean water - was responsible for the global warming that he acknowledges has taken place.
However, he said, that same cycle meant a period of cooling would begin soon and last for several years.
"We'll look back on all of this in 10 or 15 years and realise how foolish it was," Dr Gray said.
During his speech to a crowd of about 300 that included meteorology students and a host of professional meteorologists, Dr Gray also said those who had linked global warming to the increased number of hurricanes in recent years were in error.
He cited statistics showing there were 101 hurricanes from 1900 to 1949, in a period of cooler global temperatures, compared to 83 from 1957 to 2006 when the earth warmed.
"The human impact on the atmosphere is simply too small to have a major effect on global temperatures," Dr Gray said. http://www.smh.com.au/news/environment/gore-gets-a-cold-shoulder/2007/10/13/1191696238792.html
