Gore gets Noble peace prize for film etc.

So what? Even Yasser Arafat - one of the most deceptive and self-centered "dignitaries" ever to live - managed to get a Peace Prize. That should tell you that the award process is FAR from perfect!

And don't forget Henry Kissinger, a man who needlessly prolonged the Vietnam war and helped expand it into Cambodia (thus creating the conditions for the rise of the Khmer Rogue). At least Al Gore just made a movie.

As another Gore, a distant cousin IIRC, once put it: "Never underestimate the Scandinavian sense of humor"

Although the argument for this award does hold some water - the kinds of political changes necessary for simply arranging the possibility of a response to the kinds of problems that might show up in the context of Gore's internationally newway of looking at things, would probably discourage war.

They would certainly reduce the number and severity of wars started and instigated by the US, which would cut the world wide burden significantly.

Seriously, what I find truly strange and weird about the "peace prize" winners is that so very many of them as of late are little more than blow-hards ...talking up some big game, but mostly being hypocrits and being hypocritical openly and blatantly.

I know several people, right here in Dallas, who've done far, far more for actual, real people, and actually accomplished more, than Al Gore with all his rhetoric and unproven bullshit film and talk.

Peace Prize? What did he actually do for "peace"?

There are going to be millions of environmental refugees in the future, if the consequences of human intervention on the environment are ignored. Creating awareness about the future is important for peace; more people are aware of what global warming is because of Gore's contributions.

This is a wonderful acknowledgement of how much Gore has done to raise awareness of a major global problem.

A big WOAD goes out to Mr. Gore!

Every scientist I've ever read have all agreed that nothing we can do now will change anything about global warming for centuries! If everything that contributes to global warming were to be stopped RIGHT NOW, it would be centuries to even feel any effects.

I think more people are aware of him being a hypocrit than anything about global warming! When he goes to give his speeches, to tell us all what to do and not to do, he flies in his private jet ....spewing shit into the atmosphere a thousand times more than anything you or I could do in a lifetime.

So what do we achieve by not doing anything about it? Will that change a thing?

No, we should simply learn to live with it. I mean, nothing we can do to stop it for centuries, and by that time, we might invent a giant vacuum cleaner to clean up the atomsphere, for god's sake!!!

Global warming is here to stay for a while .....live with it ..'cause there ain't nothin' you can do to stop it.

Or we might not. Doing nothing and not caring about the future generations imho is irresponsible and short sighted.
Besides cutting down on fossil fuel lowers pollution and that affects people here and now.

If it takes so long to have any effect on Global Warming, isn't that more of a reason to start now?

We can win in Iraq, but we can't end Global Warming? Right.

Dear god. I actually agree with Baron Max. Hmm...I suppose it was bound to happen eventually.

Henry Kissenger (who needlessly prolonged the Vietnam war), Menachem Begin (a former Israeli terrorist mastermind and financier), and Yasser Arafat (are you f***ing kidding me?) have all won Nobel Peace Prizes, which pretty much makes the prize a joke.

Like him or not (I don't), Arafat did help bring Israel and the Palestinians closer to a peace agreement than they had ever been.

Yeah, big fuckin' deal. And 1,000 years later they're still fighting about the same fuckin' things!

And thus it will be for global warming and Al Gore ....1,000 years from now, nothing will have changed about it and people will still be bitching about having to wear the fashionable gas masks!! ...LOL!

But what we attempt to do might cause more harm to the world, to human civilization, than the global warming itself. And that's the biggest problem that I see about it. If we stop spewing pollution, we stop industry, which means loss of jobs, which means more unemployment, which means more government assistance, which means higher taxes, which means less income for workers, which means less money to buy goods, which means less goods to manufacture, which means loss of jobs, which means, ...........

What we need to do it learn how to live with global warming and make the best of it.

"Build me a BOAT I sayith! 400 cubits by 800 cubits by..."

Yeah, but I think Noak probably misunderstood the orders to save the animals, and he and his family climbed on by mistake!! And thus save the human race, and thus fucked up the whole world.
