Google maps challenge

What does 42.19, 42.11 mean? Latitude and longitude? If we can just plug the coordinates into google maps, where does the guessing come in?

yes it means the coordinates but look at what it says, the country is north west from those coordinates

it's a decodification

I too am confused.

42.19,43.11 is awfully specific. 42.0, 43.0 is about 100 yards away; presumably the hint applies there too. Especially since three of the 4 possible solutiona are smack in the middle of one giant ocean or another. The 4th is in the middle of Georgia, Asia.

My question: are those coords pointing at land?

of course
I don't mean your directions. The NW in your directions point toward land by necessity.

My question is: are the lat/long coords you gave - are they a location on land?

The only coordinates that point at land - as opposed to a spot in the middle of a vast ocean - are 42N, 43E which is Georgia, Asia. So some country NW of that.

guess country: x

[42.19,43.11 -> N.West (Borders: 5 countries)]

you can also ask questions to get more clues.

The nearest prospects from Georgia?

Both Romania(5) and Belarus(5) qualify for the broad generality of a "northwest" direction.

Bulgaria(5) is more a straight path west.
_

its more north west

If counting its maritime (sea) border with Sweden, Lithuania would be the furthest NW possibility, with five. Since there's no point entering the polar region and beyond.

I will say the answer in a bit . anyone want to give last guess?

If it's not as "near" as Romania(5) or as far as Lithuania(5), then that leaves "middle" Slovakia(5). Going much lower is flirting dangerously with a dominantly West direction.

... there's no point entering the polar region and beyond.
If you stop and think about it, this is not true.

There is no reason why pointing NW couldn't carry you 10,000 miles around the globe. It could simply be a great circle that connects the start point to the end point with the shortest possible route.

how could I improve these google maps challenges?

is there another way challenge that can be made different from this one?
