Gilgamesh

The Bible took the story of the flood from Gilgamesh

What was the earth like before the flood? A water vapor canopy surrounded the planet making it more moderate in temperature globally. What about the icecaps? What would all of that water do to the thin crust? Mountains wouldn't have been as prevalent nor high. The land a more solid structure. River beds in the ocean floor, animals in places you wouldn't think they were, suddenly frozen while grazing. The planet is 70% water.
Don't try to do science, you just lampoon yourself.

There isn't enough water on Earth to do that and there isn't enough drainage to accommodate either. Noah lived to be 600 years old though so maybe forgot some of the details?

The longevity of the elders as stated in the Bible brings up an interesting question. "Why don't we see them interacting?"

Night and day was created on day 1 and a few days later the Sun and stars were created. It's not off to a great start is it?:)
There is an earlier problem.

"2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."

So this before the "lights" (sun and moon which itself is not a light, it just reflects light of course) and before stars. So the authors did not know what the sun was or that water could not have existed since the Oxygen in water is made in stars, which would have formed millions of years after the BB.

There is very little in Genesis that bears any resemblance to current Cosmology, Biology, planetary science, Geology....

Scientifically speaking, of course. Even though according to you it never happened, so you can't have observed or repeated it, and if it had it would look exactly like it does. Got it.

Water canopy protected against harmful UV rays. People lived much longer until after the flood. Then it drastically reduced. We were originally not supposed to die, you know.

ETA: geordief , who I've never heard of because he/she doesn't have the sense or balls to participate, finds that amusing. Probably due to ignorance and cowardice usually associated with the "science."

According to lame Biblical criticism and Christian tradition, yes, but not according to the accurate interpretation of a more scientific exploration of the text. The heavens include the sun and moon. Did you know that?

The Hebrew language had a perfect state that meant complete and an imperfect state that meant incomplete. Bara (created), used at Genesis 1:1 is perfect meaning that the creation of the universe was complete in that statement. What follows is the imperfect word asah (make, appoint, arrange) which means the six "days" (periods of indeterminate time, not literal 24 hours) that God was arranging the already created heavens and earth (universe) for habitation. The same as a bed is created (manufactured) and later made continuously each day afterward.

You also might want to examine much more closely what Bart and those others have to say about the words for light used there. For example, light (Hebrew ohr) means light in general, like light from a source while light (Hebrew maohr) used later means the actual source of the light, like sun or lightbulb. It's interesting that first the light is visible through a "swaddling band" of dust and debris around the newly created planet surrounded the earth for some time and then only later the source of the light, the sun, was visible.

It's all in the link above. I reactivated my website just for you, Pin. Wasn't that nice of me? Especially considering you won't even bother to look at, oh, what's it called? The evidence.

You know why? You don't want to believe.

We do. How many generations do you think between Adam and Moses? For example - From Adam's creation to the birth of Seth was 130 years; from then to the birth of Enosh was 105 years; from then to the birth of Kenan was 90 years; from then to the birth of Mahalalel was 70 years: from then to the birth of Jared was 65 years; from then to the birth of Enoch was 162 years; from then to the birth of Methuselah was 65 years; from then to the birth of Lamech was 187 years; from then to the birth of Noah was 182 years; and from then to the Flood was 600 years. A total of 1,656 years.

Yeah, if that shit was true in pre-medicine days it would still be wildly extraordinary.

[Laughs] Pre-medicine? You mean prior to John D Rockefeller son of the first snake oil salesman and his synthetic, toxic, petroleum based elixers.

You know, I hate to tell you this, but people in the future are going to laugh at your science of today like you laugh at the same of the past.
