I'd shrug at this point. Hetero porn is generally pretty icky - of course there are exceptions, like the Golden Age of American porn and German softcore porn, but there's an ugliness to most of it. Consider how popular the borderline violent or BSDM-garbage has become.
It's like we're overcompensating for how weak and sentimental our culture is, by making our perceptions of sex so much meaner.
Or it could be just the nature of porn. Perhaps a male perspective is different, but having sex is sort of a "get to know you" type thing.
My boss and I had a conversation a couple days ago along these lines. Not porn but sex in general - anyways it's of relevence because he brought up Pavlovian conditioning. Porn is basically setting up certain "bells" to trigger orgasm. It would seem that the more intense the ring, here, the more effective it would be.
But then I shouldn't admit to either schitzo-analyzing my porn or to watching enough to have a sense of historical era!
Now the Japanese do take this to the extreme. In fact I think Japanese porn is partially responsible for the decline of quality in American porn.
