These societies, although deemed secret societies, and I'm sure the reason for the secrecy warranted, minus the deeming them to be malicious - attached from the unaware. The latter is still possible. A caution Trade secrets and tech advancement, coupled with caution in effort to keep some tech from the hands of potentially dangerous people would seem a worthy goal, if not one necessitated due to the potential of some tech itself. The link between those from years past, I would think relevant to today's tech genius pool and introductions to the societies themselves applicable. Company coupled with caution - The global leaders for a safer more secure world and aspiring engineers/architects to be deemed worthy of such an honor - to be part of that effort.
