Firefly Gets the Axe

Joss Whedon, creator of Fox's SF Western Firefly, confirmed to fans that Fox has canceled the struggling series, but left open the possibility of shopping the show to another network. Fans, meanwhile, were organizing a postcard-writing campaign, bolstered by last week's ad in Variety, to urge the continuation of their favorite show.

Here are some important links if you want to help save that show, personally id rather have you take the time to save farscape.

*EDIT* Sorry, I forgot to post the article link.

Not a huge loss I think. Hopefully Fox decides to replace it with another SciFi series, we're pretty short on good ones (Farscape, Stargate.... that's about it really) Personally I wouldn't mind if they cancelled Enterprise as well. I'd like to see a ST series that works more with time, like the timeship that was featured in Voyager in one episode. I think there could be a lot of good plots in a ship built to enforce the temporal prime directive, but I swear if I see one more trip back in time to 20th century Paris or whatever I'll quit watching right there and then.

Clockwood, you seriously liked that show? I suppose that this does prove my point, no matter how bad it is someones going to like it. I only watched one episode, and that was the first one, I didnt think very much of it. Did it get better?

I personally love the show. This is horrible news...oh well. I can sort of understand how people wouldn't like it. But still, it wasn't that bad! :(

Its not the greatest thing in the world but i enjoy it enough that I havent missed an episode yet. It dosnt have too much competition from better shows.

I only saw one episode. It rocked. But then I lost track of what time it was on... If they had advertised more, it would have done better.

Firefly is one of the shows that replaced Dark Angel so I don't like it. Nanny nanny. FOX sucks. Rupert Murdoch must suck a lot to be able to circumvent those laws in the US about foreigners owning media companies.

~sighs
I miss Dark Angel and now I find out Firefly is being axed. There was some potential there. Oh well. I hope it's being replaced with something watchable.

Firefly was a good show with a great premise. I've seen all the episodes and liked them all. The problem with sci/fi shows is that you really have to get into them from the beginning to enjoy them. Just watching one episode won't do it. This was true of farscape as well.
The teeming millions like to see brainless programming with good-looking stars that don't delve too deep. That's why these shows are cancelled.

my 2 cents,

Oz, you are completely right. That's why so many people like StarGate, it's mindless. All of the episodes are self contained, so when you watch it you don't have to know anything. Farscape's episodes related to one another, so you would have to watch all the past episodes just to understand what the characters were talking about.

Couldn't agree with you more CC. Stargate is one of the few sci/fi shows that I never liked.

Did you like Babylon 5? That series was completely written before the first episode was shot. Things that you didn't understand early on, all made sense as the series progressed.

It seems that the more intellectual the show, the less chance it has at surviving. Ironic isn't it?

Yes, I love B5. I still find myself watching it to this very day. Sometimes I even see things that I never saw before, or never realised before. I think that Jeremiah (Also by JMS) will turn out to be a lot like B5... At least I hope it is.

Smart television is just hard to find.
