I've only read one of Moorcock's novels (The Dreamthief's Daughter) and a short story, but I quite liked them. The Elric books are on my to-read list, though.
Elric is well worth reading. if only for the fact that he is an anti-hero. But the Elric saga is only one part of the Eternal Champion series by Moorcock.
Warning, a few spoilers ahead.
If you like Elric also read the Corum , Hawkmoon and Erekosë series. At the end, Elric witnesses the great battle between Law and chaos, embodied as Stormbringer (Elrics sword) and the Runestaff. Hawkmoon is the carrier of the Runestaff. Corum kills the lords of chaos Elric worships. All are reincarnations of an Eternal Champion doomed to save the Multiverse in times of trouble. Erekose is the reason why they are doomed and is cursed by remebering every life he ever had. All Champions have a compaion called something like Jary Colonel, Jhary A'Conel, Jerry Cornelius (a Champion himself). In all there are about 30 books in the series.
The band Hawkwind use a lot of imagery from Moorcock. They only makes sense after a lot of :m:
I've only read the short story collection where he let's other write. Was cool though. Not quite a good guy, not a bad guy either. If I can find more of them, I'll read them.
