I talk using phrases similar to your quotes from Einstein, without meaning quite what you take him to mean in your paraphrases there. I sometimes use God references when I talk just like Einstein did - similar wording and all - but I am atheist in your sense of deity. When I read that stuff from Einstein I simply read it as I would from anyone else with a similar cultural background and education, and basically atheistic as he appears to be, as I am, and as most people of his general background and approach who talked like that would be, by presumption. He claims that God is a He.
He claims that God is subtle.
He claims that God is not malicious.
He claims that ''before God we are all equally stupid - and equally wise.
He claims that ''God always takes the simple way''.
He claims that God thinks.
He claims that God reveals a super reasoning power in the universe...
We all could be wrong, of course, and Einstein could be an odd exception, but why would one bet that way?
