Do "we" use the word "Trolling" a little too liberally?

Usual according to site rules, warnings, infraction points. Another site I visit gives you one chance only.

"If you have come on the site to preach don't bother, this is a discussion site. Don't bring this up again."
Yet, you kind of liked MR, right? For him, I think it's give him a month ban. If he came back, he probably wouldn't do it again. If he did it again make it 2 months or just ban him.

I may be wrong but I think the harsh warnings just encourage more of this. You don't need to warn someone 5 times in 6 months before an automatic 3 day ban and then repeat all over and eventually a permanent ban. Like you say, he was capable of reasonable discussion. I don't know why he also pulled that other stuff sometimes.

Or you just give MR his own thread to post UFO videos. Noone else need post or comment, and MR needn't reply to comments that anyone else makes there. Consider it a litter-tray, and put a sign at the top to say that that is what it is. As long as the kitty only makes a mess of that, what's the problem. If the cat starts leaving mess elsewhere, kick the thing out.

If you want your own thread I'll write a letter of recommendation if that helps. You can talk about Trump, MR can talk about UFOs, maybe I can get my own thread to talk about economics and Tiassa can get...OK I guess he already has his own threads but you get the point.

Oh that must the .net site. :) "Don't bring this up again" is one of Swansont's catchphrases, as he shuts down a thread that he deems to be going nowhere or breaks the rules.

They also have this thing called "soapboxing" which is against the rules and is more general than preaching. It sees to refer to people who post stuff promoting an idea but are not prepared to discuss it, i.e. do not respond to questions or points made in response to their posts. Ivan Seeking seems to be, by his own admission, a current example of someone who might fall foul of such a rule, cf. this thread:https://www.sciforums.com/threads/i-didnt-realize-i-am-obligated-to-argue-here.167387/#post-3785401

It was done for a few members. Write4U, etc. Could have been done for MR. That's all I'm saying. It's what I would have done initially. Or move his thread to the "Free thoughts" section. Or, heck, the "Cesspool". If he couldn't keep his littering to only his tray then, sure. But my recollection is it was pretty much contained in that single thread.
