Dhea

Has anyone heard of DHEA? Its supposed to be the precursor of all hormones. Its supposed to help lose fat and build muscles, increase libido, bring back youth, and I don't know what else. What I do know is that one 5mg dose made me feel as if I were having a heart attack. My pulse was racing at 105 though my bp was normal which is usually quite low. I felt hot all over but was told my skin felt cold and clammy. I worked out and had amazing energy but vowed to never take that little pill again.

Interesting. Its supposedly helps with memory and altertness.

I felt definitely felt alert...with my finger on a 911 button!

Its best not to mess around with hormones. I'm pretty sure that one of the original proponents of DHEA died young from long term use (but don't quote me on that).

If you give your body a healthy diet, exercise, lots of fresh air and sleep, it'll keep your hormones flowing just right.

That's the thing I wasn't looking for extra hormones, I thought I would try it for a month to help burn more fat and benefit from more energy which its supposed to do.

Its a hormone but its not advertised as such on the bottle. The bottle says it optimizes immune system, enhances energy and well-being and aids in weight loss as an optimal fat burner.

I took DHEA through prescription when it was not available OTC. It did wonders for me for the first year at age 40 as I was too tired going to work. But then, I changed my job and started forgetting to take it and missed many weeks to months. Things did not go downhill. So, I think, it works under certain conditions and then once the body balances itself, no more improvement.

In other words, I think, it does not have much impact on healthy adults. So, who knows!

VI colestrol is the precurser for the sex hormones (and anabolic steroid as well i belive)

Yeah but doesn't it get converted to DHEA first then sex hormones, further back in the metabolic pathways?

Correct me if I'm wrong...
