I support the theory that it was Han. All Han. He may not shoot first, but he shoots well.
Whether Vader can be tied to Han, I'm skeptical. Han doesn't partner with anyone.
Listen to the tapes...when he tells Luke to go ahead and take the shot, you can tell by his tone, it doesn't matter. The deal is done already. Just need to make it look good.
Also look at Han's performance that day. We're supposed to believe that a prototype TIE fighter survived the guns of the Millenium Falcon? I don't think so. Only one TIE fighter has survived being shot by the millenium falcon, and who was on that ship? Vader himself.
Of course Vader can be tied to Han. Remember, Vader let Han go. There's also the links through Jabba the Hutt - Han was one of Jabba's smugglers and Anakin was one of Jabba's pod racers. Clearly Han and Vader were operating in collusion and don't forget, it's a well established fact that Han is motoivated by greed.

I recall seeing some footage of the actual battle and Vader's ship was not hit; it acutally collided with one of the other tie fighters that was hit. But could it be by design that Vader's ship was not hit by a laser blast and only spun off into space relatively unscathed???
Pretty funny video.![]()
