I still remember his intro to the gibbon stuffing song on ISIRTA: “…..throttle your chickens, roller-skate over your bushbabies and awaayee we go……”

I used to listen to the show in bed, on an earpiece connected to a 2 transistor radio I had made from a Phillips kit called the Electronic Engineer. Suppose I was 10 or 11 years old. Later I enjoyed watching him in The Goodies with Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor.
 
Yeah, he was a goodie (pun very much intended!). He co-created I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, which came out of the ISIRTA team, but only appeared in a few initial episodes, whereas fellow-Goodies TBT and GG were regulars across much of the show's 80+ series. I still listen to that when it's on.

Mum wouldn't let me watch the Goodies, she thought that and Monty python was stupid.
She caved eventually, so I caught some episodes here and there. I always remember the cat in the opening credits.
I respect the fact his childhood was pretty fucked up due to his mother, but he still managed to get into Cambridge to read English Literature.
That's where he met all the other nut job comics.

Yes ISIRTA included both the members of the Goodies plus John Cleese, Jo Kendall (the only woman) and David Hatch. Hatch later became MD of BBC Radio. They were all ex-Footlights.

Oddie was a keen twitcher, I think. I wonder if the FT will do him an obituary.
