spuriousmonkey appears to have adopted my avatar, the very same image.

He will therefore please be advised that images are copyright material and that in this instance the copyright belongs absolutely to me.

He has no right or permison to use the image, with not so much as a prior indication of the intention.

He will therefore please remove it immediately.

This is totally inexcusable.

So spurious took this image from you and you no longer have it? Did you even try sending a PM to him first?

How can you copyright Dennis Hopper's photo? He's a celebrity?

Anyway.
God. You're a whiny little cunt. Is your name trademarked too? Are you a brand name?

What if he changes it? Say.... makes it so a monkey is humping your head? Will that satisfy you?

Sue the bastard!!!

If the retard in question would actually click on the image properties of the avatar in question he will find out that it is hosted by sciforums:

SCIFORUMS STOLE YOUR COPYRIGHTED PICTURE!!! FUCKING SUE THE BASTARDS.

And no copyright information is given in the image properties:
Image input equipment: OLYMPUS OPTICAL CO.,LTD
Image input equipment model: C720UZ
File change date and time: 2006:07:02 18:25:37
Image DescriptionOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Software: 34-1036

Just that Ronnie used an Olympus.

I own the copyright, in which respect the rights and duties are well defined.

A public notice is thus a legally valid declaration.

PMs are speculative, there being nothing to guarantee, nor any notice to show that a PM is ever read at all.

Ron, the only copright I see on this site refers to the entirety, and it's copyrighted by David Watanabe.

Also as limited infringement of copyright is allowed under the guise of 'parody', I would hesitate to call in the lawyers just yet.

It is not Dennis Hopper's photo, and not Dennis Hopper.

Would you prefer that I cut your throat?

I am not a brand name..

You are ignorant.

I see no reason to suppose so.

Actually.

1. you have to prove you are the author of the picture in question. Maybe your wife took it. Maybe a stranger. It certainly doesn't look to me like you made it yourself if that is even you in the picture.

2. you have to apply the copyright laws of the nation in question. That's the country I reside in. Not yours.

Edit
3. and you have to consider the location of the server of the forum.

Copyright is owned by default, for any work, by the owner of the property, whoever put the work in, regardless of a copyright notice or any other prior notice apart from a specific permission.

The image that was used by spuriousmonkey is evidently my image, not a parody of it, not an imitation.

The image is easily identified as mine because I have the original from which the smaller version was reduced.

International issues are not of course a novelty:
The Berne Conmvention for the Protection Literay and Artictic Works would for instance apply.

Indeed, in practice, the most effective way to achieve a remedy is to act against the service supplier who is ultimately responsible.
As soon as a company expects that a hosted site is likely to be more trouble to them than it is worth in profit, the result is predictable enough.

It is unfortunate, nexus, that you have yet to learn how to keep your mouth shut with reagrd to subjects that you known next to nothing about.

.

read up ronnie. Within the EU national laws apply.

You are not easily identified because nobody knows what you look like. Nobody even knows who you are. Possession doesn't mean anything. If you didn't take the picture you are not the photographer.

Moreover according to local national law if you can see a home in background you are braking copyright law.
