Clones anyone?

Wouldn't it be great if, for a week or so, we all had our clone (essentially, ourself) to walk around with? Imagine the feeling of being validated on a constant basis. We'd look in the mirror, ask our clone, "Do I look like a dork?" and the clone would respond truthfully, but in a way that it knew we could take it. We'd be able to chat back and forth while walking down the street, not having to worry about saying perfunctory "hi"'s to passersby. When we got home, we'd already have someone to hang out with and laugh about the stupid things throughout the day. And this clone would, of course, understand us completely.

I guess the only drawback would be that it would also know the things about ourselves we'd rather not have known.

Well, it'd be great for a week or so, though.

It's be cool, for several reasons, and you shouldn't have to worry about your alter ego knowing everything; after all, you'd know everything about him/her too. You'd both just have to deal with it.

The biggest advantage, though, would be not in questions like do I look like a dork; you'd look at your doppelganger walking down the street and know that you looked like a dork; it would essentially be you that you were looking at.

Finally: not to be pedantic, but it wouldn't be a clone you'd be talking to; a clone wouldn't know you any better than your twin. It'd have to be some sort of star-trek-transporter accident or a reeeeeeeeely big computer that could map your brain in order for you to know your alter ego (and vice versa).

Yes, that's it!

This is the thought that sums it up for me:

I just think it would be incredibly cool to, as you say, walk down the street and notice yourself. You'd be able to tell all kinds of things that a two-dimensional reflection could not, or that friends and relatives would feel uncomfortable in reporting.

Perhaps the best thing, other than having a döppelganger of some sort, would be to be able to casually observe yourself doing certain things. Then you could tell if you were rude to certain people or what kind of mannerisms you had that would need to be done away with. I think people would get a really good kick out of watching themselves for a bit.

I don't think clones would work (because it's not just the body you want to duplicate but also the personality). However, a close equivalent of such things may not be too far into the future, in the shape of virtual reality reconstructions. Though even now, you could ask your friends to wear a small camera that records you as you interact with them; then you could just playback and observe your obnoxious and dorky self. ;)

I concede

Touché!

I guess what prompted this question was the realization that what I sound like on tape is NOT what I thought I sounded like, you know.

I was kind of hoping that this is what marriage would be like.

The idea of cloning is purely in the DNA physical, I think it would be impossible to create a split image clone that thinks the same as you, unless both you and the clone did exactly the same think for their whole lives, then it might possibly work, but it is still different.

They would have to eat the exact amount of energy in food, be at constant the same temperature, be educated the same, sleep the same, feel at the same time to eventually become "the same"

It would be nearly impossible to be born a clone thinking the exact same as "the original"

absolutely right!i totally agree with u and me thinks thts y cloning sud b allowed .....im for clonin!

hmm.... if a hot chick came up and started hitting on your clone, would the clone be obligated to step down and let you talk to her?
and if they didn't, would you be allowed to kill your clone? i mean you'd be pretty pissed..
