So although the struggle against systemic oppression does indeed intersect with climate change, not really a social justice cancellation this time around.
They didn't do it because Darwin was conceived as a capitalist or a Western chauvinist or a white supremacist or a misogynist or a phobe of LGTB+ or because he married his cousin, etc (more of a traditional outrage with respect to the latter). Sounds like a pretty favorable evaluation compared to other privileged, dead white guys of history...

Hmm... even Extinction Rebellion might likewise be more forgiving of some Europeans who lived during the blatant cultural hegemony scandal of colonialism. Though their core motives are certainly noble, maybe got to keep a suspicious eye on those climate crusader folks in other areas. They might not be as hip as they should be with the overall program of ascension toward socioeconomic utopia.

They look happy with the work. The grave has been there respected and unmolested for 142 years until these two heros decided to save the planet with graffiti.

I guess they thought Darwin would be okay with it. Their statements do seem to convey some respect for Darwin the naturalist, if not to the quiet contemplating of gravesites. At least chalk paint is easy to remove.
As with all such protests, I have to wonder if they furthered awareness of climate change among the indifferent or did little beyond just preaching to the choir. I can't say which graves deserve spray paint, but possibly the graves of deceased oil or coal barons lack the public visibility of Darwin's. As I write this, the grave of J. Paul Getty is under fire threat in Malibu, CA. (might be an irony alert there)

Yep. There are better ways to get your message out there.
<chuckle> Poe's Law obviously applies to parodying the left as much as the right. But hardly a new revelation -- the former has been demonstrated countless times in here over the years. (Both in terms of positive and negative reactions.)

We, the intelligent British public are not ok with it.
It is not their decision to make, they did not care about Darwin clearly, why would they?

Nor should you be. I'm trying to understand their rationale. I agree defacing graves was a poor choice. My thought would be to consider chalk painting 1.5 is Dead some place where the decisions are made to promote and market fossil fuels and to hamstring green alternatives.
