Nonstop 24 hour coverage of this damn balloon by CNN. Are we a bored nation or what?

You used "an" instead of "a". I'm curious how you pronounce "uap".

Is it ... " an Ooapp"?

I really don't understand what Beijing hopes to accomplish by violating US airspace.

It's as if they think the Air Force wont notice some big ass balloon.

However, it wasn't flat out aggression.

Two fingers to the USA probably from some faction.

Now they seem to be threatening to shoot down US spy planes just outside their territorial waters(or in disputed areas)

I heard they were hoping MR would spot it first and chalk it up as a UFO

Did they not detect it over the Pacific?

I actually reread what I typed and stuck the 'n' there for some reason. I don't know.
Come to think of it, I may have done that before on here.
keep a count and let me know when I reach a hundred.

I was hoping it was the Mother Ship finally coming to save us, but it was just another balloon!

Humor maybe ... No fly zone policy? I couldn't call it ...

A question: Where did it begin route and if a balloon can travel freely into our air space, what else could potentially come in with something of this nature? Airborne chemicals, airborne virus', etc? It's a curious thing how vulnerable we are to seemingly harmless things like air balloons. Although some found humor in the shooting it down action, I'm sure the greater threat potential did not go unrealized, whether from China, Russia, N Korea ... The list goes on.

    Indeed.
    Or simply a bomb.

Which is why it caused so much alarm.

I doubt a bomb, but I'm fairly sure virus' and chemicals could be delivered by this method, which also makes shooting it down a bit of a risk.

If could be caught and towed out to sea not a problem (or at least less of one) to drop it in the water

Virus / chemicals hit with high incentery device and watch the fireworks distroy both of those

Living in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S., I can tell you that a Russian peat fire smells a litte different than a Canadian forest fire.

The only successful mainland attack I ever heard of by the Japanese against the U.S. during WWII was a balloon-delivered bomb that killed six in Oregon.

As a general proposition, lots of stuff can make it. Chemicals, yes. Virus, most likely not. As a general proposition, just watch the weather over the Pacific; that will give you some idea of what can make it where. But as a tactical consideration, releasing sufficient chemical or biological weapon into the atmosphere to travel that far and be effective is the stuff of dereliction and madness.

I would mostly agree. Simple things like a non indigenous species can wreak havoc in an established ecosystem. Balloons carrying chemicals and/or virus could potentially wipe out an entire populated continent if no counter could be developed. Bio weapons to be certain are already a concern around the globe.
