So the "official" story at the moment, from the FBI, was that the shooter used a high powered rifle, likely the Mauser-98 that they recovered wrapped in a towel (as also described in the apparent confession to his room-mate/lover on Whatsapp, or other message app). This rifle, they say, fires 30-06 calibre bullets, and was fired from about 150 yards away.
However, the surgeon's report seems to suggest otherwise. A person spoke to the surgeon who worked on Kirk in the hospital, who reportedly said that the bullet "absolutely should have gone through, which is very very normal for a high powered, high velocity round." But the bullet was found relatively close to the surface at the entry point. Yep - Charlie Kirk's body "stopped" the round, a round that, if fired from the suspected gun, should have not just gone through but would have taken out anyone behind as well.
So, sure, there are people on the right that are already jumping on this and claiming it a miracle! A bullet is stopped by Kirk's neck (our neck muscles are actually quite fragile), "he's like the man of steel", it's a sign from God, all that stuff.
But, anyone who knows anything about the supposed rifle, and the bullet supposedly used (30-06) knows that there is 0% chance that the bullet would have been stopped by someone's neck, let alone the idea that it actually deflected off some ballistic armour he was wearing. There is youtube footage of someone shooting the same calibre from that type of rifle, and it shatters the ballistic armour, and would have shredded Kirk's neck, and damaged the people behind.
So, yeah, it might just be that the "gun in the towel" that the "confession" mentioned and was subsequently found, really isn't the actual gun at all.
Then there's footage of the sound of the shot. Apparently that shot
should have made anyone who heard it jump from shock, given that it would be really quite loud (high-powered rifle and all), but the shot heard in the video doesn't cause anyone to flinch, to turn their head, until a while after the sound, (when the screaming starts etc). The sound, it is thought, would be more like you would expect from a much lower-powered rifle, maybe even with a surpressor.
So the FBI have already released the messages between the arrested shooter and the friend - something some senior lawyers are saying should absolutely not have been done, as that supposed evidence now taints the view of anyone in the future jury pool - and those messages are strangely AI-sounding. And now they have a gun firing a round that would almost certainly have done far more damage, and definitely not been stopped just below the skin.
If I was a conspiracy theorist, maybe the release of the evidence is to give the guy they've framed an "out" in the court cases, to be able to dismiss the case due to being unable to get a fair trial, etc. Rather than have it go to court and have their evidence ripped apart?
Ah, rabbit holes. Gotta love 'em.
