Can someone help me answer these questions about light compound microscopes?

Well for one thing pretty much all unexplained scientific questions have come down to things that are very small. I could see how even measuring something microscopic could help prove/disprove theories or understand the way things work.

1. Why is it important to measure the size of microscopic objects?

A lot of advance technology applications need measurement until microscopic
scale, such as for quality control stage. For example, in the application of water
technology in medical field, today we have been able to create hemodialysis filter
which can be used to 'replace' the renal function for renal failure patients. The
filter should be designed as such that it filters selectively objects until certain size,
and passes objects of smaller size. How do you know that your product design
meets the necessary requirement? By doing measurement/check/quality control
until microscopic scale.
