This is a Norse form of torture/execution. Isn't torture supposed to last longer? And wouldn't it be very difficult to cut ribs from the spine? And who the hell would still be alive to even be bothered by the wound being salted?? I think its nothing more than mythology and not an actual practice.

It was performed by cutting the ribs of the victim by the spine, breaking the ribs so they resembled blood-stained wings, and pulling the lungs out. Salt was sprinkled in the wounds

once you remove the lungs you break the conection from one side of the heart to the other and the person will just bleed out in a few seconds. Ie they are rooted

I would think they would die from shock and blood loss as their ribs are being cut from teh spine. And how easy would that be to do with a knife? Pretty sure Vikings didn't have surgical saws

You can do it with a knife . You have to find the right spot to cut threw the cartilage. I have cut lots of rib bones and cracked open the cavity with just Me buck knife so I could pull the guts out . A saw can be easier at times , but if you are to lazy to carry a saw you got to improvise with what you got and the buck Knife is a great all around tool for that .

I believe it's generally considered there's only one realistic record of it occuring and that was in York. The vikings might not have had surgical equipment but I'm sure they've got plenty of weapons and tools that could do such a job. It's less a torture and more a brutally painful death.

Yeah, but the victim would be long dead by the time you got done cutting through both sides. Why even bother removing teh lungs and salting it.

Yes, they did it. Why? Why did Vlad the Impaler put people on pikes? It was his thing I guess.
