Hey, I just heard a rumor that in Battlestar Galactica they could only show the tips of their handheld blasters lighting up when they shot but could not dub in the actual bolt showing the energy projectile because George Lucas threatened copyright infringement if they did. Does anyone know anything about this?

i was watching the batle star galactica sci-fi marathon yesterday. i used to really like that show a few years back.
i didnt hear anything about the hand held blaster rule. though i did notice that they did not show them very often.

It had to do with the idea of the laser-bolt extending from the end of the weapon and then flying independently. According to some story or another, all was good, and BSG even used ILM facilities for some of the work, but Lucas threw a fit when he happened to see a working print and saw how damn good it was.
It also explains (halfway) why there's so much recycled Viper footage. (Production costs and CBS mucky-mucks are the other half.)
Even more fun to watch will be Richard Hatch and Glen Larson argue about the Battlestar resurrection that will never come.

I think Richard Hatch is sane, just unemployed. As for George Lucas, he did
alittle more than just throw a fit he sued BSG and won. The judge must have
thought that the blasters and the rest of the show looked too much like Star
Wars. I guess if you want to do a TV show with blasters you need to check
with George first.

Spock's mother, Amanda Grayson, was a human schoolteacher from Earth and his father, Sarek, was a respected diplomat. Spock sacrificed himself in 2285 to repair plasma conduits that allowed the U.S.S. Enterprise and its crew to escape from the detonation of the Genesis Device by Khan Noonien Singh; his radiation-wracked body was consigned to space but landed on the newly formed Genesis Planet and began regeneration. Prior to his death, Spock had mind-melded with McCoy to transfer his katra, apparently intending for his longtime friend and sparring partner to return it to Vulcan and perhaps be fully regenerated in the fal-tor-pan or refusion process, conducted for the first time in generations.
In later years, Spock's work became more diplomatic than scientific, initially remaining a part of Starfleet. In 2293, he served as Federation special envoy to the Klingon government, paving the way for the Khitomer peace accords with Chancellor Azetbur, and disappointed in that his protTgT, Lt. Valeris.
In the coming decades as a civilian, in 2368, Spock secretly traveled to Romulus on a personal mission to further the cause of Romulan/Vulcan reunification - a mission which shook up the Federation so that Captain Jean-Luc Picard was sent undercover to determine his motives. On the same trip he was saddened to hear of the death of his father, Sarek, but Picard's presence allowed Spock a final last solace thanks to an earlier Picard-Sarek mind meld. Spock remained to work with the Romulan underground and in 2369, helped arrange the defection of Romulan vice-proconsul M'Ret to the Federation to pioneer an escape route for dissidents.

No they didn't because ST has class and George Lucas is just an ahole who wants more money, thats why Jar-Jar was in Episode 1 so he could do pepsi commercial and good old george could collect the money on that. George Lucas sold out in my opinion. And I reject SW Episode 1 entirely it sucked. And if he does have a copy right on the pistol thing then why don't we all sue George making the hero (Luke) fall in love with his sister and kill his father like how that Edepidus guy did! What a rip off!
