Banned

Hey guys have you tightened the rules recently? I got lots of friends that seem to be fleeing this place in droves to other forums because friends have been banned, I just wondered what's going on?

Tell 'em to grow up.
This is still the only forum that has the potential to become something more than what it is... provided it survives the stupid and the children.

This is not yet, and should never become, a place where those who crave acceptance will find it.
Those forums are in the thousands.

I crave transcendence.
Mods so far seem to to be relatively open-minded about it all. I have to acknowledge that much. Credit where it's due.

Do not bring your adolescent bullshit here and give it credence. Give this place a chance to be more than those "other places" your friends leave here for. If there are other places they feel comfortable with, then let them go there. If they choose to stay here, let them show something.
I am not the only one who is sick to death of being forced to cater to the lowest common denominator.
I remain, here. Waiting. But not for your friends.

Is the level of polite friendly response I can expect for a perfectly polite and reasonable question?, if so then I would prefer you refrain from attempting to answer my questions in the future, or at the very least please do me the courtesy of not responding with profanity.

My question was of genuine interest was not rude was politely phrased and factually accurate, clearly this has touched a nerve, but my concern remains as I wish to be a member of a forum where the members are happy and can conduct discussions with civility.

First point, I'm not a moderator, nor do I presume I'll ever be one. I do not speak for what I presume to be the majority. I speak only for what I see and understand. I do not speak for sciforums.
That was the disclaimer.

Now, the meat.
Look. You've already said your friends are deserting for other forums, presumably under the impression they'll get better treatment elsewhere. Fine, whatever floats your boat.
It is obvious, therefore, that they are able to find something more to their liking elsewhere.
So why are you here? Why make this post? Does it make a shred of difference to you if they're here or not, if they have options? Why don't you go where they are, and have a nice chat?
There are a thousand forums out there, they come and go, and they all follow the rules of tolerance and equity.
This one has been here a very, very long time, as far as these things go.

Y'all talk about tolerance, but y'aint got none. Y'all want it your way, everywhere.
Little pink houses, all in a row.

Your friends can do it their way. This place will survive without them.

What, exactly, is the problem?
I'm not seeing it.

Unless, of course, you see something here which isn't available elsewhere. So you want to come in and take advantage of whatever tolerance there is, in order to have a burger your way.
Like an illegal immigrant.

As far as I can tell, there has been a crackdown on "crank" trends and "intentional pain in the ass" trends. As long as you're not being a persistent crank in the non-crank subforums and you don't go out of your way to be a pain in the ass then I really don't think you're at any risk of ever being banned.

I typed another reply but it's under moderator review.
Here's a more immediate one.

Do you understand that what you're requesting is conformation to a value system? More specifically, yours?

Do you understand the ramifications of forcing an external party to accept all your values so that you (and your friends) might continue to participate on a site which might actually be the only one a little more open to values other than yours?
If not... what value do you offer?
Or are you one of those who believes that respect is assumed and not earned?

Thanks Crunchy Cat for your polite, informative and reassuring response.

Aye.
As long as the response you receive falls within your intellectually acceptable boundaries, you're happy.
Still don't see the problem?

You don't want to know about philosophy. You want to know about any philosophy that falls within your own value tolerance.
Meh. Flogging a dead horse, talking to dilettantes, whatever.

Mod reviewed post are common it seems now. I was told there is a glitch. I think some members are looking for a change or have been banned and there are others on the other forum they know. This is my opinion of course. So, You may ask them and see, and respond to your own question here....

Move out of your comfort zone. I dare you.

Hah!

... how? About the only thing left for me right now is to somehow believe in god, or something.

Wynn, you're talking some seriously large comfort zone. I'm going to need some help finding the boundaries.

The forums are sooo convenient. So familiar. No surprises here, right?
Makes one think one rules the world.

Right now? I do.

Take it where you find it, Wynn.

Fine. Name another forum. Somewhere else. It'll probably bore me shitless, though. Or perhaps you can think of something else for me to do altogether?

Let me put it this way.
I am having a wonderful time right now. Music blasting, cig hanging out of my mouth, drink at the ready. Some guy called Magical Realist or something gave me something tonight, had a good feed for a while.

Don't need anyone, don't feel a goddamned thing but happy. still thinking about rabbit holes and mushrooms.

Now why on earth would you want to break it?

In an effort to control the absurd amount of spam that is being generated, and has been generated since the "upgrade" of the forum software, it was setup so that posters who have fewer than - I think it's five posts - have to have their posts approved by a moderator. This way, rather than what was happening before with hundreds of threads flooding various subfora, spam threads now go to a moderation queue, allowing moderators to clear the spam and ban the spammers with a handful of clicks.

Unfortunately, every now and then, it seems, genuine posts made by long time members occasionally get caught in the moderation queue. To my knowledge, no pattern to this has yet been established.

Cheers, I've got the answer I was looking for, I'm not interested how the site is being modded the rights/wrongs etc.., I just wanted to know if there had been a less tollerant approach recently that had led to alot of members from here joining and posting at several other forums of which I am a member. I must admit I was quite suprised at the instant hostile reaction though to my question and the apparant attempt at bottom licking towards those in charge, I guess just like in real life it's easy to find swearing and licking here. :)

Well there's a revelation.

Whine's a whine, you can try to disguise it later but your goal was clear from the start. I mean really, if one wishes to know what the rules are, all one need do is read them.
Dissemination is fairly transparent, you know, and not all politicians are actually employed in government.

I love watching the member sub-forum or Open Government or whatever.
All the "Who, me?" types are a joy.
