Your thoughts?
I have now read it and skimmed the Nature paper it is based on. It seems to be a highly technical finding, which does not seem to have any underlying fundamental significance. The authors concede it may just be a temporary curiosity of the current state of the Earth's climate.

Seems like it could help in further understanding the regional impacts of ENSO (El Nino) and other cycles in regional weather. We certainly need to upgrade models for a tighter fit with what's really going on wrt to both latitude and longitude. Seems like one of those samplings which can become another useful moving part in the climate machine.
