Avi Loeb will helm White House UFO panel

(...)His theories have won praise in UFO circles but often put him in conflict with academic peers. Other astronomers accuse him of making exotic claims with little evidence. Some chafe at his habit of skipping the peer review process and bringing claims directly to the public.

Steve Desch, an Arizona State University astrophysicist who has challenged some of Loeb’s theories, said Loeb uses flawed methods to reach wild conclusions about alien life — all while shunning a more established branch of science searching for life beyond Earth.

Loeb’s role on the White House panel casts doubt on the entire endeavor, Desch said.

“I don’t know what’s going to come of this, but we’re not going to get any closer to answering these questions with him in charge,” Desch said.

Christ almighty, Avi "Frontal" Loeb, of all people!

This just confirms Trump's administration is bent on weakening the US public's hold on reality, damaging their trust in experts and trying to create useful distractions from their project to undermine democracy. Let's put cranks in charge of everything scientific!

Some in that administration may not even realize that Loeb launched the Galileo Project himself, rather than being appointed to it. Not that it makes any difference. He's been selected to this panel to pacify the UFO-addicted segment of the populist vote, just like Junior was assimilated to draw in his alternative medicine followers. All kinds of different proles out there that have to be patchworked together and kept placated. Long before he stumbled, Saddam Hussein had to call up the different leaders of the many Iraqi tribes on a routine basis and brown-nose them. He was never as independently supreme as he appeared to be.

"The [Galileo] project gained substantial mainstream media coverage, was applauded by many, including scientists, and gained traction on social media and in online communities of people interested in UFOs. An NBC News article describes the project as "exactly the kind of research many have called for after the release of the Pentagon's intelligence report in June [2021]". There have also been various concerns, doubts and criticism about the prospects of the Galileo Project. [...] Some astronomers have also criticized claims by the project's lead scientist for "insufficient" evidence to "support his bold conjectures about alien life"."

An update from Politico, kind of an extended read on some of the key players, the various fed agencies, some pushback against Loeb from the science community, and the question of how much more there might be in future tranches of released data. Gets better as you read further down, with parts of the beginning feeling almost like a puff piece on Loeb.

And the usual question is posed on whether this panel is just another tool of mass distraction while the administration continues to plumb the deeps of low approval ratings. Oh no, the WH assures us, it's all about transparency. So I guess we'll be seeing the rest of the Epstein files?

Given Stephen Miller seems to be behind it, there must be little doubt that mass distraction is the aim. Frontal Loeb will just be their useful idiot.

This Skafish guy sounds mad as a hatter.

My guess is they haven’t had any data sent because, er, there isn’t any, or not any that anyone has much faith in.

It's a match made in heaven. It would be like putting Tommy Robinson in charge of a UK immigration and human rights advisory committee.
