Anyone else try resveratrol?

If so, what's your experience been like?

I've been on a 1gram dosage for about a month now(along with OPCs), and after two weeks I definitely noticed better circulation, more energy and better blood sugar regulation, but it's too soon to know if this is psychological or real. I'm curious if anyone whose taken this for longer has experienced anything noticeable. Any negative side effects?

After reading this about it I do not think I'd want to try it.

"Resveratrol (trans-resveratrol) is a phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol has also been produced by chemical synthesis and is sold as a nutritional supplement derived primarily from Japanese knotweed. In mouse and rat experiments, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood-sugar-lowering and other beneficial cardiovascular effects of resveratrol have been reported. Most of these results have yet to be replicated in humans. In the only positive human trial, extremely high doses (3–5 g) of resveratrol in a proprietary formulation have been necessary to significantly lower blood sugar.Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes and is a constituent of red wine, but apparently not in sufficient amounts to explain the French paradox. Experiments have shown that resveratrol treatment extended the life of fruit flies, nematode worms and short living fish but it did not increase the life span of mice."

so would eating Japanese knotweed do the trick?

I doubt it
-You'd have to eat a lot of knotweed, which I doubt tastes very good.
-knotweed might contain potentially dangerous compounds in the amount you'd have to eat to get enough
-in might interfere with the resveratrol

My supplement is 99% pure t-res. I wouldn't even try something %50 purity, its just a bad idea.

I am thinking about buying it, can you tell me which company it is that makes 99% pure rasveratrol? A link perhaps.

You can find different brands at many health food stores, but there are only two quality independently verified sources that I know of - longivinex and biotivia (which is the brand used in many studies). Here's what I take.

http://www.biotivia.com/transmaxresveratrol.html

It's expensive, but it's the best there is. The only real problem with biotivia is that it's often on backorder... If you do take it, I recommend finding some OPCs too.

Resveratrol is only one of the compounds found in grapes. There's a whole other spectrum of chemicals in the grape skin and seeds called OPCs (a type of flavanoids) which some speculate work together with resveratrol. It just makes sense to take them together. I believe they are one of the ignored factors in the French paradox. Plenty of science to back them up. Cacao beans/nibs are another great source of flavonoids.

All the power to you, man. Keep me posted on your results.

I am taking it along with a lot of other stuff. I am getting the same results...and feel 20 years younger in energy and thought processes....If it is Placebo...it is a damn good one....my waist line went down from 38 to 36...which did not happen with any other method....for the longest...

That's great! What brand do you take, and in what dosage? How long have you been it? I'm very interested. What else are you taking if you don't mind sharing?

I put my grandmother on a half gram dosage... she doesn't really know what it is, but says that it makes her feel great. She wants more. The effect is supposed to be more pronounced in older people.

As for me, the vascularity in my forearms has become noticeably better and my feet/hands are much warmer than usual now. My waist hasn't really changed - its wasn't bad to begin with - but I seem to be losing neck fat. I'm sleeping better. My weight it unchanged, but I feel lighter. Again, I won't rule out placebo, but still... interesting results so far.

The trans- form is actually pretty stable, and if it's properly packaged you don't have to worry about it. It can last for two years without degrading.

It does metabolize very quickly after you swallow it, though.
