I've pondered how one would solve the problem of conveying to Olga that it was not a permanent ban. (Should there have been a translation problem with regard to understanding the nature of the original decree.) But nada so far...

No, it just lowers skin pH, which discourages bacteria growth. Pit stink is bacterial, usually.

She was complicated, proud, passionate and confrontational but she had a good heart when she let her guard down.
I don't think.it would have worked between us, she did not like drinkers.
Rather unfortunate for a Russian lady, one would think it was part of their DNA.

On the contrary, as a Russian woman she may well have seen the consequences close up and very likely has suffered drunken assaults herself. Russians get appallingly drunk.

Not really in same league, though. I’ve witnessed it - and even once experienced it - on a couple of business trips to Russia, a few years after the wall came down. It’s because it’s all vodka not beer, I think.

I've seen drunk in Poland, that was scary. Probably closest to your scenario.
Krakow, train line in the middle of the road no barriers and this is train not tram.
People walking down the street at a 45 degree angle to the floor, all over the place with 1970s freight Trains roaring down the road.
We had a few beers, we all felt like light weights.

Sounds similar.
The worst hotel I ever stayed in was in Ismit, in Turkey, where they had the same thing: heavy freight trains with double-headed diesels thundering down the main street all night, and sounding their horns of course at street intersections. Hardly got a wink of sleep for three nights then flew to Jordan, where I promptly went down with flu. One of only 2 occasions on which I have had to call the hotel doctor.

I always sleep well on business trips because I never sleep on the plane.
Gunfire in one city woke me up.

I liked her vibe here, too! I did see some of the posts that led to her temp ban, and I get why she was banned, but hopefully, she'll return some day.

Golly I never experienced gunfire. Africa? S America? Or (perhaps more likely) the USA?
I did experience a minor earthquake in El Salvador, though, in the hotel just as I was getting dressed in the morning. Made me wonder, for a moment, if I'd eaten something dodgy the night before - and then I realised things in the room were moving a bit too.

We got to spend several extra hours in a Cuban airport because the Russian pilots got drunk on Vodka.
During Fiji's 1987 coup, my wife got to walk with her 2yo toddler past barefoot Fijians wearing sarongs, bandoliers and automatic weapons.

Danes get horrendously drunk.
When Qualcomm was in its heyday (1990-2015 or so) all overseas business flights were business class. Once I got used to it the ability to sleep on the plane was pretty convenient; I really could start working the next day.
Had a training flight once that went San Diego - London - Helsinki - Shenzhen - Seoul - Narita - back to San Diego. All the way around the world. Sleeping on the flights was key there.
