An Inconvenient Hypocrite

While lecturing others on the need to reduce energy use to avoid the destruction of the planet, Al Gore lives in a house that consumes twenty times what the average American does.
Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

So do as I say, not as I do. All this while he flys around the country on his private jet promoting his film. I need to ditch my SUV, but damned if he's going to fly with the unwashed masses!

Aren't you one that worships wealth? Attained by whatever means? Gore is successful and rich. Plus an Oscar winner. The Inconvenient Truth is you are not. Grapes going sour?

Until we HAVE new fuel sources what is he supposed to do? Live in a mud hut and play Amish?? While righties wasted 7 years on passing gay marriage blocks, passing English Only laws in states and lying about their war Gore is looking at the future, to the dismay of republican oil barons. Ignoring reality is a rightie trademark. Politicizing a serious environmental issue is trademark REpublican. Can your party fall out of love with the Saudis and big oil long enough to examine an issue that has something to do with progress? Whose paying you to politicize climate change??

madant was snubbed at the Oscars and now he takes aim at...CLINTON! No, I'll aim at....GORE!

I don't worship wealth, I respect success in any field of endeavor. Be it football, figure skating, or business. Excellence is a wonderful thing to behold.

I begrudge no one their success. I applaud it whole heartedly . What I do hate is someone trying to tell me what to do, when they aren't even following their own advice.

Al Gore wants to destroy the economy, put hundreds of thousands out of work; and he can't even put up a few solar panels and windmills to get his own house within an order of magnitude of the average US citizen?

That is hypocracy on a grand scale.

PS I'm doing quite well for myself, thank you.

You're on Ignore IAC. :D
Funny how you folks always have to tell everyone you're ignoring them instead of just ignoring them.

Since when is your ignorance a punishment of others?

When you're not really ignoring them because you feel compelled to let them know that they're missing something really, really special by your controlled application of directed ignorance.

Amok vanity.

Comedy Central stuff.

Time to give Gore a Nobel Peace prize, just like Arafat.

:D
