So what makes so many LH persons choose to play drums in RH fashion?
Regarding this, he could not roll around the kit in the normal fashion, if you are left handed on a right handed kit, you cannot play semi /quavers leading with your strong hand the same if you picture it.
If you're a lefty on a rightie then you lead with your right.

Move to your tom is same
Go to floor and your RH is free to go to the floor tom.
The problem is that you don't want to lead with your right because it does not feel natural.
Rolls and ruffs are far, far easier starting with your strong hand.
Part of snare technique is teaching your brain to give equal status to your weak hand and it messes you up.
Footballers do this with their feet, sometimes you get a genius like George best who seem to be able to use his whole body equally, his shoulders, hips, feet absolutely beautiful to watch like a ballet dancer. Even headers, a cross from the right is not the same as the left, your eyes, stance, posture is hard wired like a boxer.
Ringo did not know this, he just knew it did not feel right so he adjusted his fills.
Why was Ringo so good? He was musical, Ian Paice described him the best, "perfection," and he was despite the LR thing, perhaps it even helped.
There is as always the trope that drummers are a bit unhinged, possibly trying to un wire the hard wire may contribute to that?
I would like to think that but the 1960s/70s was awash with young dead musicians not just drummers.
Drink, drugs and time to party I suspect was the main reason.
Not flam taps.
