Advice for censorship busting

I know some of you live in countries with strict Internet controls in place (Russia, Iran and China come to mind). Here is some advice on busting the censorship blockade.

Step 1 - Buy a cheap VPS.

Why do you want a cheap vps? Dont use the normal big VPN providers, they are all monitored and likely blocked. Find a cheap VPS in a country that your country doesnt have sanctions with and which has open Internet. For instance, South Africa (or any other neutral 3rd party country) .

Depending on your country you can buy a VPS for as low as $12 for a year (or depending on if you sanctioned or not), you can get a free VPS from Oracle.

Step 2 - Use AmneziaVPN

This is a great little open source package. What it will do is connect to your vps via SSH and automatically configure it to be a VPN. What makes it nifty is not only is it your VPN server, but it can also be your encrypted DNS server. There are at least 4 protocols that Amnezia VPN offers that are censorship resistant. IE, Xray, openvpn+cloak and their own protocol called Amnezia.

It comes with other tools like automatically being able to make wordpress websites on the tor network and does split tunneling if you need to do work on a work VPN.

Step 3 - Connect AmneziaVPN to VPS

Thats it, just fill in the login details of the VPS you just bought and Amnezia does the rest. Auto configures it to whatever security protocol you chose. Make sure you have the killsiwtch set to cover your asses if the VPN drops. Try install Amnezia DNS on the VPS and only use that DNS. That way all DNS requests and all traffic are obfuscated

There are other ways to bypass censorship. One way thats almost always sure to work is to use a socks5 proxy with SSH. SSH is almost never blocked. You can do this with Bitvise SSH client and a VPS (or ssh access to a server somewhere). https://bitvise.com/ssh-client

There is also other censorship busting vpns (they have special cloaked tunnel options) such as Mullvad and Windscribe. Though I recommend AmneziaVPN over them. If you can get Amnezia working, dont bother with the others.

Got tips and tricks to browse the Internet from behind censored connections? Please share them here.

Спасибо за советы. Пока ещё у нас есть множество способов обходить блокировки. Но можно попробовать и ваш.

If there any people who are in the countries I mentioned that would like to test this. I can provide a free vps for you test on. Please inbox me.

Насколько он безопасен?
Pretty safe, I know if I follow the Amnezia telegram group its very popular with the russians, and the vps I can supply (I can offer one in atlanta or amsterdam) is basically unused. There is no logging also with Amnezia and based on the amount of Russians using the protocol (and complaining that version 2 was not available on the android app)... they seem to trust it.

So Amnezia seems good and my vps is not logged (you can take my word for that.... but I really dont want to know your issues.... or you can rent your own VPS. I actually want to do this to see which secure protocol performs the best. I cant test because my network is not censored.

I know with Mullvad you can bust through censorship, but the speeds are slow. WIth Amnezia V2 protocol it should be near full line speed.

Все мои телефоны - андроиды. А вы говорите, что на Андроиде это не работает.

All my phones are Androids. And you say this doesn't work on Android.
They were asking when android was going to get access to the new app. Im busy reading the Amnezia support channel on Telegram (where Russians are testing it out). I see it works fine on Megafon. Looks like its working. The questions about when the android app was going to get access to the new protocol, and that seems to have been sorted out. But it should work.

If you install Amnezia DM me. Ill give you root access (thats full admin access) to a server you can test. I only ask you dont do anything weird as its attached to my name. So no "crimes" (what the country where the vps is hosted would consider a crime). I want to keep these IPs as clean as possible. So this access is would only be given to trusted users (that would make you one) and for normal browsing behavior.

My only motive here is that everyone has as access to as much information as possible. All our governments suck.

Хорошо.

Virtual private server

A web host gives you access to a partition on their HD that functions as your own personal server. It's basically software that works as the equivalent to a physical server. You get to be your own sys admin, and launch your own VPN from that.
